CUT-OFF DATE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Initially the cut-off date for PWR2MCA mail-pack contributions was the 14th of May (one month after the Beasties’ Hall of Fame induction).

After the tragic news on May the 4th; my initial reaction was to stick to the original plan despite what had happened. “Keep calm and carry on”; y’know?

But I have reconsidered that.

I have sought advice from everyone I can think of. Dozens of people have been kind enough to share their thoughts and I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated your input.

Some people feel we need to send our original messages ASAP.

But most people feel it would be better if we waited.

There’s no urgency.

There’s one thing we all agree on: which is that we do not want to be intrusive. We couldn’t bear to invade Adam and Mike’s privacy or add to their distress.

If we extend the project for a few months; it gives us the chance to get more people involved.

It will give the fans an opportunity to recover from the initial impact of the news. Some people are keen to participate but just don’t feel they can face it; yet.

So I am officially announcing that the mail-pack will no longer be posted to Oscilloscope on the 14th of May.

I sincerely apologise to everyone who feels let down by this. I hope you understand why I decided to make this call. I know our hearts were set on that date……….but……..things change. Sometimes you miss deadlines. The 14th of May plan went the way of the Hot Sauce Committee Part One plan.

If you have a suggestion for a new date; please leave a comment. One suggestion was June the 1st (the final date for Sunny’s photo auction and discount). I haven’t emailed her since the news of Adam as I couldn’t bring myself to do it right now. It wouldn’t be respectful. (BTW my opinion is that June is still too soon.)

Yauch’s birthday is August the 5th…………….inappropriate? That date is gonna be difficult enough for them.

I don’t know what to do. Please help!

The only thing I am sure of is that we should KEEP GOING with PWR2BEASTIES. My determination was cemented the instant I saw Adam Horovitz had posted our picture on their blog. His acknowledgment of what we had done so far is all the encouragement we need.

Because we CAN’T; we WON’T and we DON’T stop.

ON AND ON ’TIL THE BREAK OF DAWN!

All my love;
xoxoSarah

Why would it be inappropriate? I mean, it'd definitely be difficult enough for them. No matter if we do or do not send them then. But we can always put some smiles on their faces - even if the smiles are because of sad and lovefueled memories.

But I think that the sooner is the better. I guess it'd be most appropriate to send them all the stuff that was collected until May 4th. Show them how many people loved Adam and cared for him even before the news of the tragic death. Another date would be just the things collected before May 14th.Then we can make it a second time, for Adam's B-day. It'd be nice, and I guess a lot of people will join again.

I figured out that I can have some stuff now, and some stuff later. I really want to contribute in some way, some real way (though, I don't like the money stuff - it's just that even if all the money in the world are donated, we need to change our attitude or there ain't be a change at all), but I want to tell just some good stories now. How I acted in the everyday, something that I feel is right to do, and to mention the fact that Beasties are part of the reason I'm acting that way. Maybe tomorrow I'll send my contribution. And, when I have the chance, when I'm back from the UK (BTW, is that person from Glasgow on those boards? If you are, let me mention that I really want to meet B-boys fans in Glasgow...), I'll do the stuff that will be dedicated to the Beasties and Adam. Heck, I'll even try to get some attention to the fact. (I'm thinking of getting people to organize a charitable concert. Would it be OK? Please let me know.)

For now, it's first "change the way you ARE". Because, the most important message the Beasties sent me wasn't "change your surroundings" - heck, a shitload of artists are sending this message, and they ain't understanding that you can't make a difference this way. Beasties sent a different message, a one that really makes a difference.

Change yourself.

And, man, I will. And I'm dedicating this to Adam, may his soul beast in peace, Adam and Mike.

I love you, guys.

Byron in Florida threw a free tribute party on the 11th of May, paying respect to the life and music of Adam Yauch.

http://t.co/1VPw4iJ8

Here's Byron's message: "The 2 pieces of work come from two different periods in my life. The first (drawing) is from March 2, 1994, while I was getting hyped for the release of Ill Communication. The second (sculpture) is from my series of Phukheadz that I sculpt and present to artists as a show of appreciation. I made this one (#1057 NATHANIAL HöRNPHUKÉR) on June 30, 2011 in hopes of one day presenting it to a man that has inspired and influenced my life in so many ways.

NEW CUT-OFF DATE

Thankyou so much to all the people who have supported this project since May the 4th. I was absolutely determined to continue but I couldn’t have done it without YOU.

I see no reason why we can’t keep taking positive action forever.

We can do it as part of PWR2MCA; as a way of honouring Yauch’s memory.

We can do it as part of PWR2BEASTIES; to send good vibes to Mike and Adam.

I will keep updating the Facebook page as long as you want me to!

But we DO have to set a cut-off date for inclusion in the mail-pack.

Originally the plan was to print off all our photos and messages and send them to Adam Yauch on the 14th of May.

This is the NEW PLAN:

We will now send TWO scrapbooks to O-Scope:

Scrapbook #1: contains EVERYTHING from before May the 4th. All of those messages were for Yauch; and looking at that scrapbook might be the LAST thing the boys want to do. That’s OK. They don’t have to. We will just send it to them and let them decide. I don’t feel though it would be right for me to hold on to that stuff. And I’m certainly not going to throw it in the trash. It’s way too precious. We will send it and hope that the boys understand. I will attach a letter to them and explain.

Scrapbook #2: contains EVERYTHING from May the 4th onwards. All our PWR2BEASTIES stuff and our messages of support for Mike and Adam. If you want to contribute to this scrapbook; it’s not too late.

THE CUT-OFF DATE IS THE 25th OF JULY.

(I like that date. Paul’s Boutique was released on that date!)

I will use those final few days of July to get everything packed up. Hopefully the box will get to New York around Yauch’s birthday (August the 5th). It doesn’t matter if we’re a bit early or late. That day is gonna be difficult enough for them. They don’t need to be thinking about the fans at all. If they don’t open it; that’s fine. We have done our best to show them our support. We mustn’t cross a line. We are FANS; not family; and we would never want to invade their privacy.

So there’s plenty of time left, y’all.

What do you think of the new plan? I tried really hard to come up with a way to be respectful to everyone that’s involved: the fans that have already contributed; the fans who still want to contribute…………….and more than anything else………..I tried to consider Mike and Adam’s feelings.

All of this is for them; now.

Thankyou again for your positivity and support. I love you with my whole heart, citizens of Beastie Nation.

xoxoSarah

Eoin is donating to the Irish Cancer Society in support of PWR2BEASTIES and he asked me to post THIS message:

I'm from Ireland and I would like to share this small story with fellow Beastie Boys fans such as yourself. I flew to New York for a wedding the day MCA died. I was listening to Hot Sauce Committee on the flight and I was devastated to hear the news when I landed at JFK. After the wedding and dinner (where we poured out some beer for our fallen comrade and toasted him by the pool) we took a party bus to a nightclub and I got guys I didn't even know singing Beastie songs such as "Paul Revere" and I sang the chorus to "An Open Letter to NYC." When we arrived, despite only being 19, I walked straight past the bouncers into the 21's club Beastie style and drank with my cousins all night until half 4 in the morning. I even got the DJ to play "Intergalactic" which meant a lot and later he played "Paul Revere." It was fitting to be in NY that day and even though it was sad news it was nice to party in tribute of Yauch. There is more to this story with plenty more Beastie references but I won't go on for too long. (We also flew over Manhattan in a small plane and saw Madison Square Garden which was nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHB0nft8F5c )

Thanks for listening,

Eoin

Sarah, this is so amazing you are doing this, I have been following your page on Facebook and this thread. I am definitely going to contribute, I have some ideas but I want to take a little time and make the best decision.

Since Ad Rock knows about PWR2MCA, I was wondering if he told Yauch before he passed? I am guessing that Yauch's close friends knew the end was near for the last couple months, or at least since the Hall of Fame ceremony when he was admitted to the hospital. I guess we will never know, but I hope he at least felt some of the love and good vibes coming his way.

Thanks again Sarah for doing this.

Thanks, girl! Of course you can take your time. Don't forget you can write the boys a message if you want to. These are private and won't be shared.

I don't know when Adam H found out about us; whether it was before or after.

Like you said; we'll never know if Yauch knew about PWR2MCA. The fans were the last thing any of them needed to be thinking about during such an awful time. But - just like you - I sincerely hope he was aware that there was a tremendous amount of love for him out there. He deserved to know.

It's been a great comfort to me actually. Think about it. There was this group of “Yauchers”, who spent the final three weeks of his life scurrying around; tweeting and emailing and blogging and telling everyone we could about our hero MCA; and what he taught us about interconnectedness; and how he inspired us to do something positive for PWR2MCA (whether it was a donation, volunteer work, or some other random act of kindness). All of this; just because we wanted to show him how much we cared.

We had no idea it would be his final three weeks. We were just sending the love.

The timing of PWR2MCA was kind of amazing. We had 3 decades to do something like that for him. We had 3 years since he told us he had been diagnosed.

What are the odds that we’d pick THOSE three weeks?

He really wasn’t kidding with that “interconnectedness” thing.

He’ll never know about it now; but that doesn’t mean the whole thing was pointless. It’s meant a lot to people to be able to express their emotions; to be able to DO something constructive as a tribute to this beautiful man.

And of course; all our love and support goes out to Mike and Adam. We will send EVERYTHING we’ve done; and let them decide if they wanna look at it. If it’s too emotional for them; that’s fine. All we can do is send our love.

We’re not doing it for recognition. We’re not doing it to receive thanks.

We’re doing it to GIVE thanks; to all three of them.

Just because we don’t know them; doesn’t mean we don’t CARE. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t DO something. Doesn’t mean we can’t pay our respects in our own way. As long as we’re not intrusive.

Were all connected like a Lego set One equals one together like a croquette Whether we have or have not yet met Well, it ain't o thing and it ain't no sweat ...

I honestly think that NO band in history has ever treated their fans with more love and respect than the Beasties. First Adam puts PWR2MCA on the blog only a couple of days after he’s just lost his brother; Mike writes a profoundly beautiful message on Facebook that showed he completely understood what we were all feeling; Adam and Kathleen turn up at MCADAY and spend the whole time comforting the fans (rather than the other way around)! None of them had to do any of that. We should’ve been WAY further down their priority list.

Like I said; I don’t know any of them. I don’t pretend to. I’m just a fan.

But I swear; from what I’ve seen? I think these people must be made of solid gold. They are going through hell…………….and how do they behave? With total grace. They are kind. They are considerate. They are genuinely concerned about us. They are just the classiest band I’ve ever come across.

I’m so glad we’re doing this project.

Here’s a little story I got to tell……………

In Sydney we have a gallery called the “Museum of Contemporary Art”; but we all just refer to it as “the MCA”. So when two boys from my town decided to pay tribute to Yauch; they thought “where better than at the MCA?!!”

Check this out: (they got on the local news and everything!):

http://vimeo.com/43588064

MCA at the MCA! Surrealism and tomfoolery - in true Yauch style.

…………..in aid of a great cause (Cancer Council of Australia).

You can show them some support by hitting “like” on their Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/MCAattheMCA

Did I mention? They were featured on the blog all Beastie fans want to get on: “The Sabotage Times” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.sabotagetimes.com/music/mca-tribute-at-the-mca/

AND just because Aussies always have each other’s backs; they were kind enough to join the PWR2BEASTIES crew as well!!

Here’s a pic from James: http://t.co/k4OplRQe

And this is Dan’s: http://t.co/BZ4MfpG3

Greetings PWR2MCAers;

I’m sure you’ll all remember Alina; the beautiful young lady featured in this photo (flanked by her friends Amy and Luke). Luke’s dad Frank sent us the photo in the first few days of the PWR2MCA Project. Alina is 11 and has had neuroblastoma cancer since she was 4.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pwr2mca/210870055689645#!/photo.php?fbid=247915655318418&set=a.218066104970040.42478.210870055689645&type=1&theater

Frank’s contribution to the PWR2MCA Project was a donation to the Ronald McDonald House in New York where Alina stays while she’s receiving treatment.

Many people have emailed me since Frank shared Alina’s story. I know several of us were moved to tears. She’s a hero to us all.

So……..I am truly sorry to be the one to tell you that Alina’s health has declined since that gorgeous photo was taken. She’s in need of our support right now. Frank emailed me today to let me know that poor Alina will be starting a new round of chemotherapy soon.

If you haven’t contributed to PWR2BEASTIES yet; you might like to consider supporting Alina as your “positive action” for the project.

I registered to her site this morning and I was really delighted to be able to send a message to her along with my donation.

I think it would mean a lot to her if she received messages from people from all over the world. I wonder if she knows how many people she’s inspired with her PWR2MCA photo? She’s such a brave person.

Alina; if you’re reading this: we are sending ALL OUR LOVE to you, sweetie!

Here is the link Frank sent us if you’d like to show Alina your support:

Hey Ms Pacman, loving your project. When is the deadline?

25th of July.

Paul's Boutique Day! It just seemed like a nice date to pick.

I will post the mail-pack as soon as I can after that date; hopefully it will arrive at O-Scope in early August. (I'm all the way down in Sydney so I'm not sure how long it will take! I'm gonna put a tracking number on it so I can update y'all!)

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO UNTIL CUT-OFF DATE! If you want your fist photo to be included in the scrapbook that’s being sent to New York, please email it to me by the 25th of July.

pwr2mca@gmail.com (http://bbs.beastieboys.com/pwr2mca@gmail.com)

Please tell all your friends about PWR2BEASTIES! Tweet; blog; send smoke signals!

Don’t forget you are welcome to send me a message for Mike and Adam as well. It can be a long letter /short note /whatever you like! These are private (I won’t publish them online). Non-English speakers; please feel welcome to contribute. We have PWR2MCAers everywhere! From Azerbaijan to Brazil to Finland, ready to translate for you!

Also, if you don’t want to send a fist photo, that’s cool.

Some people have been sending mp4 files; mp3 files, scans/photographs of artwork etc etc etc. Do whatever you like! Just send PWR to those Beasties! Whatever you send to me, I will ensure it makes it into that box.

If you decide to make a contribution to a charity (or something else: participation in Relay For Life, volunteer work, etc) please let me know so that I can write it down for Mike and Adam. Here are the links to two charities that the Beastie Boys support:

The Pablove Foundation | fighting childhood cancer with love
https://secure.commonground.convio.com/pablove/donate/

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer
http://www.alexslemonade.org/contribute

Just a reminder: these are the contact details for Yauch’s Milarepa Fund if you would like to send them a cheque (these deets can’t be found via Google search). Milarepa is still going strong and would love your support.

The Milarepa Fund
c/o Michael Walsh
Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman, LLP
1880 Century Park East, Suite 1600
Los Angeles, CA 90067

If you would like to contact Mr Walsh directly please let me know and I’ll ask him for permission to pass on his email address on to you.

Lastly, (and I’m pretty delighted to tell you this): I emailed Oscilloscope Laboratories yesterday, to ask official permission to send our box to their office. I explained who we were, what we’ve been doing all this time, and asked if it would be OK to send everything to them in New York. I offered our condolences to them, personally, as well. A lot of you guys have mentioned to me how heartbroken you are, on their behalf – so I wanted to pass that on.

They replied immediately.

I received a GORGEOUS reply from O-Scoper Aaron, who told me that the entire office had read my email.

They were really touched that the fans are thinking of them.

They totally dig our PWR2MCA idea.

They are completely fine with me sending the box to their office, and made sure I had the right address and everything.

AND…………they even promised to make sure that our box gets to the guys.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JACKPOT.

O-SCOPE, we LOVE YOU!!!! (I mean, we already did. But now we love you EVEN MORE.)

Seriously. Could they BE any nicer to the fans? This whole crew is so classy.

Hi Sara- how's it going? Can't believe it's almost the 25th! Do you need any help? Help with postage ... Anything?

WOW, it's going great! Thanks mate! BIG finish, leading up to the cut-off date.

Thankyou so much for your offer to help with postage. That is unbelievably kind, and I really appreciate it! But you know? I‘m happy to cover it. It can be part of my contribution to this whole thing.

On the 14th of April, when this started, I remember saying something like “I want this to become huge. I want to run out of ink in my printer. I want the peeps at the post office to think I’m crazy”.

Well; I spoke to them on Friday afternoon, to ask their advice on sending our stuff to New York.
They DO think I’m crazy! It was pretty hilarious!

In fact; they’re having to find a special box just for me because I have SO MUCH STUFF to send! They said “you gotta give us a few days to find a box that big, sweetie. We don’t sell boxes that big!”

hahahahahaha

EPIC!!!!

POWER TO MCA AND HIS BEASTLY BROTHERS!

:D

Quick quick quick – spread the word!

Time is runnin' and passin'

MsPacMan

So how does it look and can you add a website link to it? Do you know if you will hear back from them? Thanks

Ashley; as I explained to you in my previous emails (and also in my responses to all your messages on Twitter and Facebook):

1) your photos look lovely (remember we already talked about this? Only a couple of days ago. About the paper I used, and everything, and how I spread them all out?)

2) again, as I have said before: the whole point of PWR2MCA is to send our support from a respectful distance; NOT to pressure Mike and Adam for a reply. That would be really tasteless. (Anyway, Adam already put us on the blog. That was above and beyond; and a truly beautiful - and unnecessary - thing for him to do for ALL the fans. What more could we possibly want?)
Don’t worry; you can be sure that the box will get to them. I am putting a tracking number on it so that I will be able to tell you guys when it’s arrived.

3) and to reiterate: the PWR2MCA scrapbook is for photos and messages only. We’re not promoting ourselves, our websites, our YouTube channels or our blogs and tumblr pages. People are welcome to send mp3s and videos, too, but only if it’s their way of paying their respects and showing their gratitude (ie. this is not the place for audition tapes!!!!!)
To quote Sir Yauch:
Ain't sellin' out to advertisers
What you get is what you see
And you won't see me in the advertising

If people are looking for a way to “get” to Mike and Adam; to pester them; to invade their privacy; or to intrude on them in any way; then PWR2MCA is NOT the way to do it.

As I said to you in my previous responses, I’m not accusing you of trying to do that. But it needs to be clear that we’re not seeking or expecting a reaction from them. We decided that on Day One. I’m actually writing them a letter to make that point really explicit to them.

All we’re trying to do is put positive vibes out into the universe. When you do that; you don’t expect anything in return.

Ashley, if you have any other questions, you will find the answers in all my email responses to you. Also, as I’ve suggested before - please feel free to read the post I wrote for the “About” section of the Facebook page. It contains all the information about the project.

Thankyou again for your participation and contribution. You did a great job!

Not ready to mail it quite yet, sweetie. I am still putting the last pieces in. It'll probably take me another day or so, because we had a BIG RUSH of supporters at the end!!

..................................

Sorry to those people who are reading this (who are not Khloe and may not “get” my sense of humour).

I don’t mean to be “cheerleading at a funeral”……but I feel overwhelmed by happiness today.

.........y'know, if you had told me on May 4th that there could be such joy in my heart by late July, I would not have believed you.

I would NEVER have believed I could be so happy.

I'm not saying I'm "over it". I'm not saying it doesn't hurt.

It hurts.

All the time.

But the fact that I'm able to get on here with you guys, and laugh, and joke, and smile............well...........it helps with the healing.

I suppose we SHOULD be feeling sorry for ourselves. We should be bitter. (And we ARE, deep down.) But I’m just trying not to let the grief WIN.

Thankyou ALL for the comfort you've given me since May 4th.

"Dark is not the opposite of light; it's the absence of light......."

Thank you, my Beastiefan-friends, for lighting a fire in the darkness.

http://t.co/d0vgANRi

This is inspiring!

Sorry; I forgot to post Robert's info:

http://www.ccsb.org/About_Us/Events/Walk_Run_2012/

"I plan on getting a team of runners and walkers together to raise money for the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, CA. The event is a 5k/10k run or walk. The team name will be PWR2MCA and all money collected will be donated in his honor.
The event is not until October, but I would like to keep you updated on how I am doing getting a team together and raising money. Also, if you put the link on the PWR2MCA site, people can donate towards the team. And if anyone lives close enough to participate in the actual event, they can reach me to join up. We can also encourage other people to do the same thing in their own city."

I'll try and promote this as much as I can! Thanks, Robert!

Sometimes I don't think they'll ever fully understand just HOW MUCH their words have meant to us and how many times they have inspired us to do the right thing in life.

The completed scrapbooks!

http://t.co/YrTl63B8

The black one contains everything from the starting date (April 14th) to May 4th.

The red ones contain everything from May 5th to the cut-off date (July 25th).

I hope you guys are happy with the colours I chose. The other options were brown (meh); hot pink (too much); purple (kinda cool, but not quite right); pale green (what?); and baby pink (perhaps not).

I bought the black one way back in April. The red ones were purchased later. I thought we needed a POWERFUL COLOUR!!!!!!

What do you think? I hope you're happy with what I decided!

WOW! The response to those photos I posted last night has been overwhelming.

I’m hearing a lot of “thankyou”s today; and I genuinely appreciate your kind words. It means a lot.

But the thing is, “THANKYOU” is really all I want to SAY.

So………

Here are my THANKYOUs:

GRATITUDE…….

To THE CAST:

To ADAM YAUCH.
We carry you in our hearts. We are never without you.
Wherever we go, you go; and whatever is done by us; is done to honour you.
You are the seed of what grows.
You are the light in the colours and the moment between seconds.
You are the very fabric of the sky.
You are the wonder that is keeping the stars apart.

To MIKE AND ADAM, for inspiring the whole project; on the night of the Hall of Fame. We have never been PROUDER to call ourselves your fans. Thankyou for your heroism on that night, and for your courage since May the 4th. Thankyou for your overwhelming kindness towards us. Thankyou for reaching through your computer screens and picking us up after we’d been knocked flat. Thankyou for CONSTANTLY reminding us why our hearts are so full of love and respect for you.

To Tamra Davis and Kathleen Hanna, for your acknowledgment of the fans; and for going out of your way to connect with us (Tamra via Facebook; Kathleen on MCADAY) at a time when we shouldn’t have even been on your priority list. Thankyou for your compassion; for your humanity; and for understanding. Thankyou for making us feel as though it wouldn’t be inappropriate for us to reach out.

To the following members of the Beastiefamily for their warm-hearted support of PWR2MCA: Cey Adams, Mix Master Mike, Fredo Ortiz, Eric Bobo, Luscious Jackson, Bridget Everett, JD Samson and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. You guys flipped my wig back. I can’t speak highly enough of you. You are all class. EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to Sunny Bak (who went WAY above and beyond………..just WOW………..)

To the staff at Nasty Little Man; for realising I was not a psycho fan, and for deciding to assist me!

To Aaron and his colleagues at Oscilloscope Laboratories; for going way beyond the call of duty in support of our project. I am deeply touched by your generosity and your willingness to help. You guys are the BEST. O-Scopers forever!

To Michael Walsh, for passing on our donations to the Milarepa Fund.

To Megan from the Pablove Foundation; for her support and encouragement.

To THE CREW:

To my original homeboys Eric and Jordan; who said “you can count on my support!” before I could even finish telling them what PWR2MCA was.

To all the long-time board members; for treating me with such civility, even though you had no reason to believe that my intentions were genuine. Thankyou especially to the ones who jumped at the chance to get involved – it was thrilling to have so many Beastiefan celebrities in the PWR2MCA crew!

To all the hardcore onliners, who run the big-time Beastiefan websites, blogs and podcasts. Thanks for not just dismissing me as an amateur and for treating me with respect. I am truly humbled by the courtesy you’ve shown me.

To all the people who I had “kinda” met, online, over the years; who came flying out of the woodwork to introduce themselves properly and to throw their support behind me; and this project. Just like when Mike D describes riding the train: “…..same faces every day but you don't know their names……”. I feel like we’ve lurked around each other for years. All these familiar usernames and avatars! Now we’ve become actual friends. Adam Yauch brought us together.

To the cyber friends that already knew me; before the project began; who had my back, who vouched for me, who assured everyone I wasn’t a troll!

To the fans who chose NOT to get involved, and to those who didn’t like the idea at all! Thankyou for providing an alternative viewpoint and for opening my eyes to perspectives I hadn’t considered. You did me a great service.

To my little sis Lauren; for your wise advice.

To DJ Skrilla, for being my “go-to” guy. Thankyou for being so good at all the things I’m crap at.

To Tati Pryor, for her tireless promotion of this project, and for the light she brings to everything she touches.

To Rob; for his truly excellent timing. Thankyou my brother.

To Khloe (a.k.a. Beastie Boys #1 fan; WHOOPS, correction: Beastie Boys #1 HAND!) for being our official model!
If you would like to book Khloe’s services; please contact her agent. That would be me. (hahahahahaha!) My number is 718-498-1043.

To Deb Buchanan Landgraf; for taking on the enormous task of setting up our official online store (all proceeds go to our girl Alina’s fundraiser). Walking down the block with the fresh fly threads………….

To Allyson; for being the voice of the fans, and for validating what we were all feeling.

To Mike Kearney; for STEPPING UP to the plate like the hero that he is.

To Michelle Lawlor; for lifting us up when we needed it most.

To Matthew Hamilton; for being the best representative we could have ever asked for. You said what we all needed to say and you did yourself (and all of us) proud.

To Juliana; for having the uncanny knack of catching me in my most vulnerable moments, when I’m not wearing my “brave face”………and for not minding.

To Robbie Wilkins; for being the next torch bearer in the Beastiefan relay. Whatever it is you’ve got planned, you can count me in!

To Paul Sid; for being the kind of fan Adam Yauch deserves to have.

To Orit Berl; for making us look like pros.

To Kate; for understanding the true meaning of a “selfless act”.

To Jenny W; for your desire to expand the horizons and parameters.

To ALL the members of the Beastiefan family who understood what I was trying to achieve, particularly those who private messaged me on the hardest days. Who pumped me up, and made me keep going after May the 4th. Who encouraged me publicly on Facebook and Twitter. Who defended me on the boards. Who stood by the project. Who said “Sarah! It’s 4:30am in Sydney. GO TO BED!”

To Taylor, for making the mixtapes that became the soundtrack to the printing, guillotining and pasting.

To my main man at the craft shop, who had to make phone calls all over Sydney to find more scrapbooking supplies for me! Nothing was too much trouble: “……..oh!....you are back again……….nope, none left………you have already cleaned us out…..……you need another four packs?.........ok, I can make that happen………. come back on Wednesday.”

To the enthusiastic peeps at my local record store, liquor store, library, discount store, grocery store and bookstore, for searching high and low for a box that would be a perfect size to transport our scrapbooks all the way to New York. I even had my newsagent and mechanic on the hunt for me! We found one in the end! Go team!

To the lady at the post office, for her advice on how I should send such a ridiculously large package. To the opposite side of the planet. Thankyou for trying so hard to conceal your bemusement.

To the farmers who grew all those coffee beans. I consumed LOADS of ’em! You have no idea how much you contributed to this project. I owe you, big time.

To Jo Galloway. Because this was really YOUR idea. Well, perhaps not THIS EXACT idea; but something like it. We should have listened. We should have done this a long time ago. Thankyou for your generosity and your warmth. Thankyou for paving the path for me. Thankyou for creating MCA’s Posse, and for showing me that it was possible to reach out to this brilliant trio of guys in a respectful way. Thankyou for inspiring me to do something for our man MCA. Thankyou for your years of devotion to the fans, and for working your arse off for us every single day, behind-the-scenes. Thankyou for your stoic determination to continue, no matter what. You are the Louise to my Thelma.

To Renata. Thankyou for being my friend BEFORE I was “the PWR2MCA girl”. Thankyou for sticking with me. Thanks for telling me I wasn’t crazy. Thanks for actually BELIEVING I wasn’t crazy. Thankyou for making me laugh through my tears. Thanks for your unconditional loyalty. Thanks for being there long before the journey started, for not even thinking twice before deciding to come with me, for staying by my side, every step of the way, and for your constant reassurance that you will still be there, at the end of all things. You are the Samwise to my Frodo.

To Frank Akelaitis, for your friendship. Thankyou for being so concerned for my personal welfare, for making me feel looked after, for guarding me, for watching out for me. You are the Atticus to my Scout.

To Jon Sink; for your enthusiasm, and for making me realise how far this could go. It’s been a privilege to work alongside you and I hope we always will. Maverick and Goose.

To HH. Thankyou for being the gift I received from the universe as a reward for creating PWR2MCA. We have a lifetime of madcap adventures ahead of us! Lucy has found her Ethel. (Or maybe it’s Bill and Ted!)

To Lisa Martinez; for repping Brooklyn; for being our girl on the ground; and for writing those beautiful WORDS for our scrapbook when I just didn’t know what to say. Thankyou for being the Sam Seaborn to my Jed Bartlet.

To Ben Escobedo; for your faith in me, for planting a seed in my mind, for making me believe in myself. Thankyou for your deep kindness. You are the Morpheus to my Neo.

To Silence7. If it wasn’t for you, the project may have been over before it started. I was a complete nobody, but you looked beyond that. As soon as YOU threw your weight behind PWR2MCA, people took me seriously, because they trust your judgment. You are a leader in this community. You have clout. Thankyou for everything you do for us. And thankyou for being the one who didn’t fall apart on May the 4th. “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs…..” Thankyou for holding us all together. Thankyou for picking me up when you knew I’d hit rock bottom and for taking the time to look after me even though you had (literally) 1000 emails from other people who needed you more. Thankyou for your wisdom and for your flawless advice. You are the Mr Miyagi to my Karate Kid.

This project is dedicated to Alina and her family, who inspire us every day with their grace and strength.

Awesome job Sarah,Thank You for all you've been doing and all that I'm sure you will keep doing.I just heard some great news,I spoke to Alina's mom and she had her surgery today to remove the tumors and everything was a success, they are hoping that she will be home here in Florida soon. Her mom is VERY aware of what you are doing and is VERY thankful for all that the Beastie Nation is doing not only for MCA but also Alina and she wanted me to thank EVERYONE,so thanks everyone.

Sarah, I just found this online & you came to mind instantly:

Work for a cause, not applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don't strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.

I think that sums you up pretty well.

Have you made that wrapping paper yourself? It's totally cool!

Yep; it's just photo paper + my printer. Not too shabby.

After taking that photo I wrapped the whole thing in extra plastic so it doesn't get wrecked on the way. Nearly 10 000 miles!

(hahahahaha "wrapped in plastic" - Twin Peaks - oh, now I'm showing my age!)

IS PWR2MCA OVER?

The whole purpose of PWR2MCA was to give the fans an opportunity to send good vibes to Adam Yauch, and to offer our gratitude. On May the 4th; everything changed. We decided to continue the project as a tribute to him, and focus on sending those same positive vibes to Mike D and Adrock.

Well, the scrapbooks are finished. The box has been posted. It’s on its way to New York, right now. The trusty crew at O-Scope has promised to pass it on to the boys.

We’ve done everything we possibly can to show Adam and Mike our support.

We don’t need to keep going anymore.

Does this mean PWR2MCA has to stop?

HELL NO!

Of course not.

Why should we stop? I mean, I know we don’t have permission from the band, or from Yauch’s family, but as our good King Adrock said on the blog:

“I’m glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him.”

It makes ME glad, too.

And I think that’s the whole point. This makes us feel good. We’re not hurting anyone. If we find it cathartic to keep going; then I think we SHOULD.

LOTS of people have contacted me since July 25th (the cut-off date for the mail-pack) expressing their regret that they “missed out”. They want to send in a fist photo for our gallery. They want their country to be represented!

Countless others have requested that we keep PWR2MCA going.

Well, I don’t think we should send/post/mail anything else to Mike and Adam. I think we’ve done our best for them already.

But I think we SHOULD keep trying to reach out to other fans who haven’t heard about the project, and invite them to join us.

Let’s keep making contributions to good causes (like Milarepa, Alex’s Lemonade, Pablove, and all the others).

Let’s keep in touch with each other. We’ve created a wonderful support network here. I’ve only known most of you for a few months, but you feel like family.

Let’s continue to share our photos, videos, remixes, artworks, stories and memories.

Let’s keep the positive vibes flowing.

And above ALL, let’s keep talking about the three AMAZING men who inspired the whole thing. Let’s tell others about them. Let’s keep all three of them in our hearts and minds, every single day.

I am gonna update the Facebook page for as long as you want me to. It’s a central place for us all to connect. Keep sending me your PWR2MCA pics and stories! I will be more than happy to upload them.

In my letter to Mike and Adam, I gave them the link to the FB page, and told them that if at any point they start to forget how much love and support there is “out there” for them, they should click on our link and see what their fans are saying about them. They should check out the awesome stuff we’re doing. ALL BECAUSE OF THEM.

So let’s keep this thing going. For our beastly boys, for ourselves, and for each other.

We can’t, we won’t, and we DON’T stop.

xoxoSarah

PEOPLE HOW YOU DOING? THERE'S A NEW DAY DAWNING……

……receiving lots of email enquires lately from people who are bummed that they “missed out” on PWR2MCA.

So I just thought I’d post a reminder to let you know what we’re gonna do from now on……

People are still sending me fist photos, artwork and messages for Mike and Adam. Which is AWESOME!

Here’s the deal: we’re not gonna send/mail/post anything else to them now that the scrapbooks are done.

HOWEVER I included a letter in their mail-pack, and I said that if they ever want to be reminded of how much love and support there is “out there” for them – all they have to do is come and visit the Facebook page. I told them that all of us PWR2MCAers are gonna keep waving that Beastie flag for them.

I promised to keep updating the page.

So keep on keeping on, Beastiefans!

I need to hear from you!

Send me your fist photos!
Tell us about the charity you’ve chosen to support. We want deets!
Make some PWR2BEASTIES artwork!
Represent your country! (24 nations so far!)
Tell other fans about this project!

If you have a message for Mike and Adam, send it to me in an email, along with your photo. I’ll put it beside your photo when I upload it (just remember that others will be able to see it………I’m afraid I can’t send personal, private messages to them on your behalf………..I don’t know Mike and Adam! I’m just a fan!)

So that’s the plan!

What do you think?

Thanks for your support, everyone.

xoxoSarah

Zephra in Ontario donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in support of PWR2BEASTIES, and she sent this message to the boys:

"a message for The Beastie Boys I'm gonna keep it short because you guys must be busy all the time. I just wanna say that I love your music! It's amazing! You guys are just so cool! You guys are my favorite group! You guys just seem so real true to yourself! And I love how you guys talk about important issues and you try to help. So that's all, I hope I didn't take up too much of your time. You guys inspire me soo much! Again you guys are the BEST!!

Sincerely, Zephra (one of your biggest fans)"

from Aisha:

“I am now also supporting DEBRA (Charity organisation for people with a rare genetic skin blistering condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa) - and who I have previously done voluntary work for. And also giving support to Islamic Aid ahead of Ramadan approaching.

Just keep spreading the Beastie love whatever you support! xoxo”

Here's what I know:

I believe Khloe found the first photo of it on Instagram a couple of days ago. She's contacted the bloke who made it but I don't know if he's replied to her yet.

Heather from this messageboard is in NYC right now at Jason's event; and she emailed me another pic. I don't know the exact location. I'm sure she'll give us deets once she gets home.

BTW throw me a bone here, people. What is the make of the car? Anybody recognise?

I know others will have more info but it was 2 guys & they both showed up there's also a nice tribute to Jam Master Jay towards the front. I believe both sides are identical. It is a Caddy, if I remember my hood ornaments correctly. Tears were shed & rightfully so. Pictures don't do it justice. It's amazing to see.
