Beyond being a Beastie Boy, MCA was truly a visionary -

For fans young and old I'm sure there are some things we may have missed or may want to rediscover, so let's get a list of what he has done during his amazing life so we can keep it Alive

I'm gonna be selfish and start with an obvious one - Oscilliscope Productions

Founder and director of this film company - Yauch has helped bring some excellent moving pictures to our eyes, movies, music videos - giving independent film makers an opportunity to bring their quaint, controversial, and creative stories to life.

My Personal Fav. The Tibetan Freedom Concerts. Learned so much at the '97 event.

Tibetan Freedom Concert is the name given to a series of rock festivals held in North America, Europe and Asia between 1996 and 2001 to support the cause of Tibetan independence. The concerts were organized by the Beastie Boys and the Milarepa Fund. The idea for a Live Aid-style concert for Tibet was conceived by members of the group during the 1994 Lollapalooza Tour.
Organized in June 1996, the first concert was held in San Francisco and featured acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Björk, Smashing Pumpkins, Cibo Matto, Rage Against the Machine and De La Soul. It drew 100,000 people and raised over $800,000 for Tibetan and social justice causes. Additional concerts were held until 2003, generating public awareness about the Tibetan plight, particularly amongst young people. The concerts helped spur the growth of Students for a Free Tibet worldwide.

as a huge NBA fan, I have followed the careers of the high school players that were profiled in Adam Yauch's documentary directorial debut (if you don't count AIFST), and film #1 in the Oscilloscope collection...
