It seems like I have thought of getting one several times in the last 15-16 years.

At 19, I was contemplating a "Boys will be Beastie" tat. About 5 years ago I was going to get this logo:

minus the "Beastie Boys" and the slogan below. My career involves basketball and I thought it would be cool on the inside of my forearm. Never did it.

Now, I'm thinking about getting a "Long Burn the Fire" tat of some type but haven't thought of the design. I'm probably too damn old for tats now anyway.

I had already decided weeks ago that I would get a portrait of Yauch, small one.. nothing crazy. I just want something that represents his spirit and kindness and then I'll add a lyric with it. A friend of mine told me she could get me to the best place Houston has to offer. I want somebody that knows their shit on portraits.

i would choose one of him smiling, i meant that a beautiful picture, but every time your going to look at it...it will bring back sad memories of him passing away. Just my thoughts though!

EDIT: I'm totally jacking Paulb's idea - three HSC heads, interlayed in a cycle sort of like John Bonham's Led Zeppelin insignia, with 'A Year and a Day' around it. Yauch's won't be the top head, because visually they were never really like that, even if he were the brains behind lots of it. Actually, that is a design issue to consider.........

Anyway, I'll probably do this.

I have three non-Beastie tats. I've essentially been forbidden to get any more. Restated, if I go get another tat the husband would totally stress.

That said, if I had the option, I'd go with the PWR2MCA image using the purple/pink/green. Otherwise, I'd want whatever the Tibet symbol for "Adam" is (if there is such a thing). Perhaps in the Tibetic (or Bodic) language.

I have no idea how that would look.

Last year I quit my miserable (big money making) job that was literally destroying me to backpack around the world on my own and get my life back. It was the best year of my life and changed me forever. I've always toyed with the idea of getting a tattoo but it's a big deal for me and I just could never could think of anything significant enough in my life that I wanted to pay tribute to it forever on my body.

However, as I neared the end of my journey I decided that I wanted to get something tattooed on me as a reminder of the things I have learned about myself so that I don't stray too far as I get back into the routine of a "normal" life. Yauch passed just a few days after my trip ended, and the absolute devastation I felt made me realize how big of an impact that the Boy's had on me. As I was looking through my "diary" entries towards the end of my trip and re-reading my summarization on the whole experience the message hit me like a punch in the face:

"Be true to yourself and you will never fall"

Now I'm just toying with the idea of either just having it tattooed on me as normal cursive text, in something very beastie-esque (like the "Check your Head" font), or something more artsy that plays on the literal words of the message (really dumb example off the top of my head, but like Wile-E Coyote saying it as he's standing in thin air having just walked off a cliff - before looking down, of course, lol).

Any ideas my Beastie Bretheren? Would really appreciate any input...

Probably going to get it up my side because I work in an industry where a professional appearance is crucially criticized, so I feel this spot would have the least chance of being seen through a white dress shirt.

If I may ask (since you were sharing the story): you write about a job that was destroying you at the beginning and then again about a job in which you're being judged on appearance at the end. I was slightly surprised because it almost seemed to me as if it was the same job. So I'm curious: did your trip end up making you feel like you could cope again, or is it a different job that you do enjoy and the appearance thing is only a minor issue? great idea, but I promised my husband I'd wait a few months to prove i'm not being impulsive lol...my hubs totally stresses over tats, too. But I haven't been able to settle on a design either. I want something whimsical, because their sense of humor and not taking themselves too seriously is one of the things i love most about our boys. Okay so I had the photo all picked out but when I went in for my consultation, I was told by the artist that the shadowing was going to make it look weird on me. This guy is a professional. I loved how he immediately said NO. He had a lot of awards hanging on the wall which I liked, but the guy he was tattooing while talking to me was squirming around in pain. I am scared but my friend who was with me said guys are wimps and I can handle it. Fuck it I am gonna do this. FINALLY found the perfect photo that I think he will approve so I am getting this done soon!!!!!!!!!! So excited!

Jesus fuck Dong it's my first tattoo, calm the hell down. I meant nothing by that other than just sayin he was a professional. I could have went somewhere where they could have said yes and then done a shitty job. It's my understanding there are places out there like that too.
