View Full Version : Does anyone else use Spotify for listening to music exclusively now?
I don't even buy music albums anymore because I just stream albums from there. Whenever a new album is out, I check it out there. It's an awesome service, and it's free to register, although the free account is limited to only so many hours of music listening. I've never hit that limit so far, though.
But you know what sucks, they made it so you have to register with your Facebook account. Fortunately, I registered before they made that change!
i switched over to spotify like 2 years ago. been workin out pretty good. haven't downloaded an album in ages unless it's been unavailable on spotify.

I never use spotify. I tried it for a bit, but quickly decided it wasn't for me.
I get most new music via radiostations, the dutch luisterpaal (3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html) and downloads. If I really like something, I'll buy it.
And sometimes I use Grooveshark or www.stereomood.com. That last one makes a playlist based on your mood or activity or artist of your liking.
im curious what is it that makes spotify bad in some sense?
i pay like 10 bucks a month and have playlists for albums or whatever, use it on the phone etc etc. it's the first product i've used that's actually a step up from the "illegal" way of doing things.
but i guess it depends on what country you're using it in.
I was using Grooveshark before I used Spotify. The problem with Grooveshark are the search results of whatever music you're searching for. You get a lot of nonsensical results because the music is uploaded by users, so it's similar to those peer-to-peer file downloading programs, where there will be a file name like "Trackname 01" or whatever.
Personally, I can't find a single problem with Spotify. I mean, the ads can be annoying every so often, but the trick is not to let a song reach the end, otherwise the ad will start. So in theory, you'd never come across an ad. (an audio ad, anyhow) I like being able to save playlists of specific albums and listen to them at a later time.
the ads suck though so i'd rather pay 10 bucks a month. that way you can use it on your phone as well. and the tracks are streamed in higher quality.
True. I've never owned a smartphone before, so maybe sometime down the road if/when I get one, I'll pay for using Spotify so I can stream music from my phone.

I'm obsessed with Spotify. I pay the ten dollars a month. Totally worth it. I have discovered so many new bands because of it. I noticed I don't buy as much music as I used to...but I will always buy albums from my favorite bands. Love having the streaming on my iPhone. Totally worth it.
Yup. Same here. Using Spotify to get exposed to bands is more convenient than searching on Youtube.

Yes, its kind of awesome. I get the standard package (fiver a month). Its great for finding hidden gems, the radio function is good. Its good for sharing stuff and completing collections and viewing artists whole collection. The amount of new music you can find by just searching one track then finding similar stuff is amazing. I havent actually downloaded or purchased anything, am just happy to load it all up in the player.

LOVE the radio thing, such a great way to listen to new tunes. Amazing!
I used it to build myself a Christmas playlist, but other than that, I haven't cared to so much as open the program. I like my physical media too much. I feel like I'd be betraying my vinyl collection.
But hey, if it weren't for Spotify, I'd have never known there was a Pokemon Christmas album, so that's a good thing right there.

I use it occasionally. I'd never pay for it though. I just find that it's a bit like iTunes when it comes to finding new music; You can only click on so many related artists before you've seen them all.
Now YouTube on the other hand...

Now YouTube on the other hand...well i think the main point of spotify is to let you play the music you would otherwise have to download as in your favorite artists etc.
the thought of being able to play whatever song at whatever time where ever in high quality makes it a no brainer once you get used to it imo.
