Mine is to be a video game developer. I want to program games. I still may pursue that career path, but right now, I'm shooting for a software engineer. I've yet to begin learning how to program seriously, though.

programming is fun, good choice as long as you don't mind sitting in front of a computer all day.

my dream job is to be rich and famous and live happily ever after.

Yeah. I don't mind doing that. I'm on a computer a lot anyway, when I'm not working.

What programming languages would you recommend that I start off learning?

I'd love to be a chef/foodie/traveller of the Anthony Bourdain variety and run/own a really nice restaurant/bar which will make me rich and not famous but I will live happily ever after.

When my dad came to the US, he started out as a cook, then became a chef, and eventually owned his own restaurants. I've been around restaurants - specifically family restaurants - throughout my childhood. It's a nice business to be in, but it can get stressful for various reasons. I never shared the same interest in restaurants that my dad did.

I'm not familiar with Anthony Bourdain, but I remember this one host from a food-related show, where he'd visit various countries and try out different exotic foods. He was a somewhat large man and would eat anything that was presented to him. His name is escaping me.

Oh and to expand on why I'd want to be a game developer - I've been fascinated by games since I was 8-years-old and have owned most of the consoles released and have played a variety of games. I'm interested in how and why a game works the day it does, down to the mechanics and coding. I've heard people say game programmers don't get paid very well, but it wouldn't be about the money for me. To be honest, I'd rather enjoy what I was doing and feel I was creating something special, than get paid handsomely for something that I didn't enjoy doing. That, to me, is what defines a dream job. Of course having both a job you enjoy and getting paid well for it would be better, but money isn't everything to me. Cliched to say, but it's true.

Yeah. I don't mind doing that. I'm on a computer a lot anyway, when I'm not working.

What programming languages would you recommend that I start off learning?depends on what you wanna do.

if you really want to become a game developer than you need to start learning C++ and any other popular low level languages.

if you're being realistic and just want to have as many doors open as possible i suggest getting into .NET and specifically C#.

a good thing to focus on if you start getting involved with .NET would be SharePoint as the demand for SP developers is constantly increasing and there is already a shortage of it.

i'm doing a lot of sharepoint work and it's pretty fun once you start to get the bigger picture of it all.

microsoft is the way to go framework/library wise. they know what they're doing. plus it'd be easier to find jobs where you get paid cause microsoft projects for customers are usually bigger and more expensive than sitting in your basement doing php websites.

I'm flexible on wages.

Not the bloody army! Any job where I can live a normal life and be there for the family I plan on having, no more going away for 6 months at a time every couple of years. I hope to get a job as an imagery analyst or at least something related to my time in the military.

When I retire I want to become a land based engineer at the original Disneyland, or imagineer as they like to say in Disney speak.

I am happy with my current gig and it has given me the skills and documentation to perhaps, maybe with a little charm, get my foot in the door.

Forced perspective has always been an obsession. That's why I'm in AA + NA.

Games developer. A while back I started writing a game, it was pretty cool and I had a working prototype but after 6 months I realised the job was too big for me and Skyrim came out so...

If I had a big lotto win I would start a small games studio of 3 or 4 people making mobile business sim games (like a British Kairosoft) and try and grow it.

It's interesting you say that, I always thought most people wanted exactly what you posted. When it comes right down to it most people don't.

I have all of that right now, but it's limited by motivation of co-workers. What I envision as a finished product usually requires much more effort and thought than most wage slaves are willing to sacrifice. (or the man is willing to spend)

I decided 4 years ago to transfer from the job site I was employed because of this and now I work on the road for the same company usually in a different town every week with different people all over the state. No projects, but also no frustration. When I'm done with one crew I just move on to the next. My expectations are much more reasonable.

While I get limited opportunities to apply my strengths, more often than not it's the structural constraints which prevent a truly meaningful and satisfying outcome. So I guess the opportunity to collaborate and innovate is cool, but it's diminished by the work environment and mindset of others. Which in turn results in outcomes I struggle to be anything more than ambivalent about. It's a shame, and something I'd hoped to turn around.

i honestly don't know

i used to say "writer" but that's kind of sort of what i do know, figured a certain way--close enough that i can kind of tell that i'd hate it if i had to live off it

i also used to say "comedian" but glimpsing into that world, it seems lonely as fuuuuuuck if you do that for a living

so i dunno. maybe i'm wrong. maybe writing and comedy actually do rule and my spot on the fringe isn't close enough to tell

video game reviewer maybe? i like video games and having opinions about them. nobody pays to read those anymore, but you did say "dream" job soooo

I think my real dream job is owning a trampoline warehouse, where people come down and pay money to jump on them. I bet the insurance is astronomical, but it would be low stress until the first paralyzation incident.

If someone would pay me buttloads of money to go to awesome vacation destinations with my friends, visit spas, dine at good restaraunts, go to theaters, throw parties, invent my own language, read novels, collect vintage toys, buy high fashion clothes and accessories, play harmless and hilarious pranks, and watch way too much tv, that would be great.
So i want to be ashton kutcher.

Oh, I know*, I've been to two different trampoline places. I want to start my own in the city.
