Death seems to be the best way to increase record sales.... :(

Beastie Boys' Billboard Hits: Group's Albums Rock Hot 200 As Sales Jump 1,235% In One Week
Altogether, 55,000 Beastie Boy albums were sold over the week -- a 1,235% increase over the previous week's 4,000 units.

a beastie fan is born everyday! also, there are probably people out there that had the album, lost it and forget about it. they noticed they didnt have it anymore and ordered it again. its hands down one of the best albums of all time, IMO!

There are a few factors why there could be an increase in sales.
There are a lot of people who are being exposed to their music right now who might not have been exposed to it earlier. There might be people who have heard of the name beastie boys, but never heard any of their songs until they showed a tribute on the 6 o clock news.

There might be casual fans who heard one of the many youtube tributes and decided to buy an album.

Most people still remember them for LTI. Maybe people are reading about how awesome Yauch was and wanted to check out some his other stuff.

It's nice to see people celebrating Yauch's art.

Ill Communication

And I got 3 picture frames made for record albums...

that's why the fools who suddenly put a sampling lawsuit out there did.

too bad for those lawyers that LTI and P'sB were grandfathered in so the samples aren't subject to the rules.

it's sad that it takes the passing of someone for sales to 'go up'.

I've probably bought each LP more than once.

Nieces and Nephews will all be getting Beasties work and a copy of the translation of the bohisattva vow poem for their upcoming birthdays, etc.

they're formin a lawsuit now of all times because all beastie sales shot up so they're divin in on them while there's money flowin. It's pathetic.

I listened to the song that they sampled, Drop the Bomb... and man does it suck!

I lent my copy of Ill Communication to a friend of mine and got it back so damaged that I couldn't listen to it anymore... Thank goodness, I was experienced enough to copy it on my hard disk. I've been planning to get the latest reissues since they first emerged, but then I decided to buy the HSCPt2 with the extra t-shirt included... I'm pretty sure that I'll buy the reissues though.

That death is a hot seller is quite an interesting phenomenon, but it's been like that since music became pop. I like to think that most of the people who are buying these records now are conscious about celebrating the legacy of Adam and not just a bunch of hipsters. Buying records in the time of online sharing is probably the second best way to show your respects to a performer, while obviously, nothing beats a live experience.

Why does it upset me so much that now hoards of people are just now running to purchase Beastie Boys work? Like, where the fck were you the past 25 years?! *shakes fist*

Then this excellent point... chilled me out.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've not been a huge music purchaser, except for this band as I love them so much that I wanna collect it all. But also it's been my way of honoring their craft and showing them love by going to the store to purchase their work.

Another theory I have is that, since Licensed To Ill is the most brought, maybe a lot of those '80s fans who dropped out after Paul's Boutique are buying digital copies to replace their worn out/missing/broken vinyls and cassette tapes.

For me, I like the idea that more people are listening to them. Also, I like the idea of more people recognising Paul's Boutique as one of the greatest albums of all time, rather than that fucking disgusting clothing line under the same name.

Idk how they could let them get broken or go missing. I'd be devastated. I keep mine super safe.

PB 20th anniversary fold out poster edition vinyl, I got it for 10$ and so I looked on eBay to see if prices changed and I saw the same one for 50$.

Same here. In hard times like these it's good to know that Beastie music is being listened to all around the globe. Creates a sense of unity.

I lever could afford those deluxe editions when they were released. I was either unemployed or with really low salary. Also shipping to Europe cost a fortune! And now they're sold out, except for Hello Nasty....

Oh.. I just love the headline from one news article titled.. "My recent obsessions: the Beastie Boys and the Avengers."

I don't want to use the words "where were they then" because whether you were in the fandom or not, the Beastie Boys were household names and Yauch marked his place in musical history in a big way. I don't mind the love people are showing but its just that no matter how much of it we get it won't bring him back.

I left my collection back home when I moved to the UK. Bought Ill Communication and To the 5 Boroughs (really love it) 3 days ago while on the road in Manchester. Consider buying Hot Sauce and maybe Paul's Boutique as well, though I want vinyls for back home.

YouTube hits are way up too. Every single video, no matter how obscure, is getting views and comments. I suspect this will never end, since there will always be someone wanting to see one of their videos on any given day, especially now when they want to relive some nostalgia.

The "Fight For Your Right" music video has 10 million hits on YouTube. "Sabotage" music video now has 9 million hits. "Fight For Your Right (Revisited)" has 5 million.
