Well I mentioned previously that my aunt died just last year from cancer. Anal cancer. Seeing how she looked just days before she died was heartbreaking. And then knowing Adam's pain and suffering just had me depressed all year about this disease and what it keeps doing to so many people we love. :/
I will for sure do a hashtag for gary.
I don't get it. Why can't we find a fucking cure.

Fuck Cancer.
If Cancer were an oil patch in the desert it would have been cured 10 years ago.
I'm still waiting for a reply from a bbmb member who told me they had cancer last year. I just hope they're not doing as bad as the last message implied :(
my mom passed away from liver, bone and colon cancer. :(that's terrible i'm sorry to hear that. i lost my father about a year ago from liver cancer. it was the first time i saw first hand how evil cancer can be and it's not something i ever want to experience again. it's just a heartbreaking disease for everyone involved.

Cancer sucks. I've been a nurse in cancer care for the last 12 years. I have met such courageous human beings. Makes me value every day of my life because you never know when it will be taken away from you.

thanks. its the worst thing anyone can endure, seeing your loved one dying and not able to do anything about it. I know the doctors neglected to find her cancer, she was going to all the new, top notch hospitals for months and couldnt find a thing until she went to brunswick hospital in amityville and they found the cancer in 24 hours. now mind you, this was one of the oldest hosptals on long island with the most outdate equiptment. they said she had 4 weeks go live, but she survived 2 months. I always blamed the government because she was on medicaid and i had it in my head that they just didnt care unles you had $$$. but after seeing what had happened with adam, im begining to change my tune.

My brother has survived testicular and kidney cancer and he's only 35 years old. IT CAN BE DONE. (And he's been a great comfort to me while I'm grieving over MCA. He's also a Beasties fan.)
That said, FUCK CANCER.
RIP MCA.

I've lost too many loved ones to cancer, and the thing that always fucks me up about it is that it either responds to treatment and diminishes, or it comes back even harder. I experienced the latter with this kid I used to work with, it was so sad. I remember being like "Sammy how are you feeling?" and he was all "I'm dying bro. It sucks."
That's what's tough about MCA. I'd naively assumed that he would be ok. I can't imagine (the torture of the actual treatments aside) how awful it must have been to go through all that at the first stage, after all of that optimism, and then - I'm assuming -around 2011 have it come back even harder. It's fucking sad that such a good person had to suffer so much, and that optimism and hope weren't enough.
It just bugs me out to think of what must have happened between 2010 and later on in 2011, when it was sort of apparent this was a hard slog. When I got word of him being on the ropes, I was flabbergasted. As I said, just truly naive of me.
RIP MCA. Brave as hell.
My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2005. She's still here, but will never go into remission. She's going to Italy in 2 weeks - her lifelong dream. My grandmother also died from breast cancer. Both had "very rare" forms. Makes me nervous for the future, but angry for those that are taken and the suffering they go through.
Prayers to yours, cj and everyone else!

Damn that's sad. :/ I'll keep his family in my thoughts. So young...
Cancer is like some black plague taking over. I hear more about cancer deaths than any other type of death these days.
My aunt had a good remission period for about three months and then she went downhill and was dead in the matter of days. Yauch was a hero and beautiful person but at the same time he was just one of us, going through normal life problems. I wish he had been invincible.

Light and love to you, CJ.
Something interesting to read is Noam Chomsky's comments on cancer research. The short of it is, he says he has friends at the top levels who say, basically, they have NO IDEA how to go about the problem, so a lot of the money ends up going to other types of research.
My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer shortly after Adam. His was the size of a large apple. He had surgery, but didn't live long enough to even take his radiation treatments. Losing him is inextricably tied up in all of this. It seems true for all of us who had our brushes with this disease during this time.
Take care.

Add my mother to the list:
On Memorial Day I see her...everything's normal. Next day my boy asks her to make them cupcakes for their bday and she was hesitant...which isn't like her. She then told me she had to get a cat scan. I see her Wed and she's in a lot of pain. She got a hysterectomy and they found cancer. She's still in the hospital. The only thing I hate more than putting this on the net is having my mom in this condition. Pray for her.

:( sorry about your family members cj.
one of my best friends lost her mother last Tuesday - colon and pancreatic cancer. apparently, this combo is uber rare. She passed away less than 2 months after she first found out she might have a cancer; it took all but the last two weeks for the md's to figure out specifically what she had. it was heartbreaking to see the entire thing and this past week has been one of the most difficult weeks of my life. I'd known my friend's mom (& the whole family) for nearly 20 years. may she rest in peace.

I'm sorry to read all of your stories. They've helped me though. I just realized how jaded I've become over cancer diagnosises amongst my friends & family. In one year alone, I lost 14 relatives/close family friends. Of those, 11 were due to cancer. I've also lost other numerous people to cancer. I, myself, have this sinking feeling inside that I have skin cancer. I have a spot on my face that keeps growing & matches the discription of melanoma. A part of me didn't want to go see a doctor because I could lose my eyesight (it's very close to my left eye) & didn't want to deal with getting "the news.". I've been through so much in the past couple of years, I've just put the spot in the back of my head. After reading your stories, I know I have to go have this checked out. Thank you for bringing me back down to earth.
