how have you all here not spoke about Elizabeth Warren yet? You know, the ultra liberal anti business anti capitalist running for Ted "cant you swim?" Kennedy's old seat.

If a Rep said he figured he was jewish because he had a big nose, I am sure he would be publically crucified.

If a Rep said he figured he was african american because he had curly hair like a sheep, he would be publically crucified

If a Rep said he figure he was Asian because he had slanted eyes , he would be publically crucified.

however,

If a Dem running for Ted's old senate seat said she always thought she was Native American because everybody in her family had high cheek bones "like all Indians do" .....well we just let that one pass

more proof that race based set asides and minority quotas really do work...

Here is an imaginary link where some of us pretend like we know of Elizabeth Warren, Elizabeth Warren is Impressive (http://bbs.beastieboys.com/showthread.php?t=91249&highlight=elizabeth+warren) from 3 years ago.

You sure are busy fighting racism, I found out on your last post that President Obama is half white! Talk about a surprise!

You do realize she is from Oklahoma, she was born there 62 years ago. She claimed she is 1/32 Cherokee, the odds of that being correct are about 99%.

The Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation – the man who runs the tribe – has 1/32nd Cherokee ancestry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_John_Baker#Background), If the Cherokees accept it as sufficient for their Chief, then it is enough for Elizabeth Warren.

so then it IS OKAY to judge somebody by their looks and from that ascertain their genetic background? after all, it is her looks that she has used to justify her heritage as "native american"....Goebbels would be proud

She has said she is 1/32 Cherokee. I'm not guessing about this or profiling. If you need further verification of what Elizabeth Warren said, look it up somewhere other than the media currently feeding your thread.

Great research.

I know it's weird but YES she decided it'd be best to open up about her Native American heritage in a youtube/office mashup.

I'm sorry you have really missed the point: you and Scott Brown do not get to decide who is, or is not, a Cherokee. The Cherokee decide that. Ms. Warren is Cherokee enough for the Cherokee people, hence any time she claims that heritage, for whatever reason (and the evidence is that her reasons are not to advance her career, she did not need any such assistance, but to reflect how she saw herself) she has done no wrong and misled no person.

This really is all about how one political party will go to any length to distract, distort and evade responsibility for the mess it has made and wants to continue to make of this country.

The real truth about Elizabeth Warren is that Republicans are scared to death of her because she is intelligent, capable, effective and courageous.

no once cares about the stuff you research on the internet, so no, I didn't attend that class. or click any of your links. you are a race baiting troll.

but your racially coded rhetoric is probably what this is aimed at. hence my comment.

Plus, in that youtube clip, she's actually quoting her Aunt Bea. Her Aunt Bea walked past a picture (of who, I don't know, because the context has been removed) and remarked on the cheekbones of the person in the picture.

And, I just wanted to say that as a person of both hispanic and native american descent, I've sometimes checked those boxes on forms, and sometimes haven't. Some paperwork asks for multiple races, some ask for only one. I usually choose "white" if you can pick only one, but I always hesitate when it says, "white, non-hispanic"...bbbecause I look white, but my family background is multicultural. My grandmother spoke Spanish all the time when I was a kid. I ate different food than my friends' families, experienced a different family culture (like watching my half-brother chop the head off a chicken, ha), visited Mexico, there are Native ruins on my family's land out west, etc. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it was still a part of my upbringing...so I'm not gonna be like, "yeah, I'm just white", because I can't just dismiss what is part of me because it's easier for other people to understand.

So my point is, if Elizabeth Warren's family really valued their Native heritage, they probably talked about it a lot and it was a part of her upbringing. She has a right to be proud of it. And judging a person on what box they checked for whatever job is dumb...sometimes you just pick a box that seems appropriate.

Also the high cheekbones is like a thing that people say all the time about Native Americans. It's not derogatory, it's complimentary...if perhaps a little old fashioned.

are you fucking kidding me? so, you're saying that Warren is...what? a liar? because that document was only an application for a marriage license, not an actual marriage license? FROM 1894?!

OH MY GOD, SHE'S AWFUL!

you have to be kidding me? how is this an issue? her family brought her up telling her that she had Cherokee ancestry. What does that have to do with anything outside of her family?

using a fake claim to ancestry to get a preferential minority status, you have no problems with that....or are you just as ignorant as the other 357 MSNBC nightly viewers?

Well, I don't think you have proof that she used it to gain preferential treatment. You're just speculating. You seriously think a person would get special privledges for being 1/32 Cherokee?

It's a non-issue. Go find something else pointless to complain about, because unless you have proof that she committed fraud, this is a bullshit topic.
