Everyday I been thinking of MCA and my best way to comfort myself is jamming to the Beastie's...

Been thinking about this for a little bit, reading articles and all the press from their albums. Seems as if Ill Communication didn't get a ton of press besides for the great music video/song of Sabotage.

The more I listen to it and listen to the others I think its my favorite Beastie Boys album by a wide margin.

Something I think that separates this album is the top 5 from this album just destroys all albums from anybody in history!

"Get it Together"
"Do It"
"Sure Shot"

They could all rank up there as my favorite song of alltime, let alone beastie song, and they all happen to be on the same album.

Then when you add

"Root Down"
"Sabotage"
"Alright Lets Hear This"
"Flute Loop"
"Bboy's Making with the Freak Freak"
"Heart Attack Man"

I was thinking 5 deep but just putting it on paper it probably has 9 of my 100 favorite songs from any artist of alltime, 3 of well my top 3 on any given day but just for varieties sake 3 of my favorite songs of anyone ever are probably those 3 songs I listed up top.

Pauls Boutique and Hello Nasty might be more artistic, critically applaused, and you can probably jam 13 deep to every song on Licensed to Ill, but if I had to choose one album to listen to for the rest of my life, the pure domination from my fav songs on Ill Communication I think would give it the nod.

Maybe I'm just crazy, because I crazy love the Beastie Boys but I think this might be my favorite album of alltime.

A lot of the time, it's definitely right up there. It was perfection when it dropped.

I do love Ill Communication, no doubt. For me, Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication were, are and will be my favs. Love all their albums, but those three take the cake. Chosing just one album is tuff, all played in my life soundtrack but special dedication to PB, CYH & Ill Communication. Glad I don't have to really chose one from the rest though cuz there are daze, moods, business meetings where each album boasts relevant jams.

All of those songs mentioned, plus The Update and Bodhisvatta Vow make it the album it is, which is fantastic. Choosing which album of theirs in my favorite would be like a parent choosing which one of their kids is their favorite -- underline unethical, and downright impossible. :)

Where does it rank in your alltime albums counting any group/artist?

I'm with you. It is a GREAT album and definitely on my top 20 but then again, maybe I am partial because every Beastie release is in there some where.

i have it playing now in my pc, and at times have considered it my favorite, especially for those songs you've listed.

but to be honest, it isn't the first album to ever come to mind, but thanks for the reminder.

Futterman's Rule!!

Immense Yauch bass grooves making it possibly my fave Beastie instrumental.:)

Plus loved the "Sabotage part 2" video for it on the Sabotage video/DVD.

Sure Shot though, man, one of the best opening songs to an album ever!! Can still remember getting the album home when it came out and dropping the needle on it for the first time!! Amazing!(y)

the tastes of the beasties are so wide that even "the scoop", my favourite IC's song, hasn't been mentioned in this thread :P
