I have some of Beastie Boys mix tapes I made back in the day that I used to play non stop. One made right after Ill Comm came out, before I started DJing. It reminded me how deep I was into the Beastie Boys back then. The first one I did has all types of inteview clips, live banter, and whatnot from various TV appearances, the Beastie VHS tapes, bootlegs, etc.
The other one I did is all mixed together and has scratching. I made it right after Hello Nasty came out. By the way, Pass the Mic goes really well with Shame in Your Game!

Last night before sitting down to watch AIFST (which was rough; rougher than I expected), I listened to the first few songs on Ill Communication, and they hit me like never before, to the point I found myself thinking that this snapshot of tunes just might best exemplify the band at full steam, creatively and energy-wise. I still love the Boutique more then anything, and CYH is a better album, but good lord, the run of Sure Shot -> Tough Guy -> Freak Freak -> Root Down -> Sabotage -> Get It Together is just an off the fucking charts all-cylinders juggernaut of power.

It actually gives you some cool perspective on how the band's sound and styles evolved. Perfect for a road trip.

I didn't get into any of the bonus discs/b-sides/side projects etc (with the exception of the extra track on Hello Nasty because I randomly grabbed the Japanese disc). I probably have at least 4 hours worth of additional stuff. I'll have to save that for a 12-hour road trip.
