So the Beastie Boys used to rap about guns all the time in the 80s... I know there's stories about Yauch going to the underpass in Brooklyn and letting off his nine but how much contact with guns do you think they had in a "street" sense? I could see them running into problems in NYC after the real hood dudes heard them bragging about how they carry guns and shoot people in the back... or do you think people just ignored it cuz they were so goofy?
These days the "guns in rap" thing is a much bigger issue and so it would be harder for kids like them to get away with maybe?
What's your favourite gun-related Beastie Boys lyric?

He had a nine at one point because he destroyed it with a sledgehammer. Respect.

Once I took a photo of that moment from the TV screen and sent it as a Christmas card to certain people. Only one knew what it was about...

Before the Beasties their were almost nobody ryhming about guns. It was Schoolly D and then Ice-T who came out at about the same time as the Beasties and that was it.
"The hood guys" that the original poster on this thread mentioned wouldn't be offended since there was really no precedent. In fact there is considerable evidence that the "hood guys" loved it (see NWA)
