Didn't want this to get lost in conversation so we're taking the liberty of creating a new thread to let you know about this very unique plan and provide this thread as a tool to organize the DIY event described below... Please do what you can to get the word out about this. If you speak languages other than English your assistance promoting would be sooooo appreciated because the idea is to make this an international (INTERGALACTIC!!) event, so if you know of fan groups in other countries and languages we ask that you be sure to share about this in those places too. XOXOX & TIA

This international DIY event is scheduled on the day before Adam "MCA" Yauch's birthday which is Sunday, August 5th. There's word that some are planning memorial events for Saturday the 4th. If you're not able to make it to an event we've simply provided a theme and method of tribute for a gathering you can put together with your friends and participate by proxy in the other commemorative events that may happen in different cities that night. The suggested time to start your event is 8:00 PM in your local time zone.

This open event is both to celebrate the life of Adam Yauch, an amazingly gifted man, a passionate humanitarian and so much more along with taking some time to mourn the unfortunate and untimely loss we've sustained by no longer having him moving along with us through our lives.

Here's the plan, get a group of your friends together or do this alone (make sure to invite friends on Facebook through the link for this event as an additional show of support). At your soiree share a Brass Monkey with your friend MCA. Pour out a sip for him then take a sip for yourself, rinse and repeat. Okay, don't rinse just repeat. For those wanting to participate but not drink alcohol skip the booze and share the orange juice with him, we feel he'd be cool with that. (We feel a responsibility to remind everyone to behave responsibly if you drink, don't do anything which may add a tragedy to a tragedy.)

Although the rhymes and the tunes live on many feel they've lost a part of their own lives and a major influence from their childhood, if you're feeling a very heavy loss then do this (or any act of closure you prefer) sooner rather than later so you can move towards acceptance.

Don't forget to celebrate his life and legacy. Share good memories with old friends. Live in the joy you've received from him. In this case you don't have to fight for your right to party. (We've been reminded that sometimes you do have to "party for your right to fight"...)

Send invites to one and all!!! We want to offer this idea to the whole galaxy so make sure to fan the page and tell nearly all of your friends about the page and the event -- you may be surprised how many friends you have who are Beastie Boys fans yet it's never come up. If you know of any BB fan sites you can copy and paste this to post, tweet or whatever on those too. If you're not going to do the event as we've created but something else commemorative please mark yourself as attending as an one more sign of support.

Video your wassail, take some pictures, say a few words of tribute, sing a song, do a dance, whatever -- express yourself then send it to us and we'll post it for the world to see all the kindred fans of the Beastie Boys and your love and respect of MCA. Also, we're going to make sure to share the link to those close to Adam, if our message doesn't get lost with all the others they're receiving they can see what you have to say, see how you memorialize the life of a great man; show all the love we feel and how much we miss him.

PROBLEMS WITH OUR TWITTER ACCOUNT -- NEED HELP PLEASE

If anyone who reads this knows of the best way to handle our situation with Twitter your advice will be sooooo appreciated!!

I did something very naive and overly trusting...

At the suggestion of a follower I added an app to our Twitter account that was described as being able to help find accounts similar to both those we follow and those who follow us then it would make recommendations of others we should follow. I installed it the other night and the next morning our account was suspended for "excessive following". Well, clearly it didn't make recommendations as it said it would, the stupid thing followed others all on its own and we have no way of finding out how many because our list is set to zero during our suspension. Since the app integrated with Twitter it never crossed my mind that it could be dubious. I made the assumption that if it integrated with Twitter then it was Twitter approved... Live and learn.

If you think it will help us and not hurt us you can write to Twitter on our behalf through this link: https://support.twitter.com/forms/general?subtopic=suspended and request they restore the account for @Galactic_Monkey.

TIA for any help and advice... XOXOX

I saw someone sign TIA XOXO on the page, and with all the new admins, I was wondering who Tia was...took me a minute to figure out what it means.

LOL -- and I only type that when I really do it!!!

I've used "TIA" since back in the days when we used to write letters by hand. Maybe that's why you didn't catch on right away, it predates internet acronyms. There's one I use when someone says they have to do something else, like in the middle of a chat or something, it's TYT, I've seen it a little but most people ask me what it means... Do you happen to know? :)

Some help needed...

I have a question for anyone who reads this... We're going to do something suggested by one of the FB page admins for "Intergalactic Brass Monkey" and that's to create a new Twitter account and delete the suspended one. Once we do this the Twitter link on the opening post for this thread needs to be changed. I've searched around to see if there's either a way to edit something already posted or to delete a thread and I've found nothing. Does anyone know if either of these things are possible? If the answer is yes how do I do it?

TIA -- CC

Hi tpk,

Thank you for your reply. I imagine you have a very big job going through all these messages on here so I greatly appreciate your response to my last post.

I haven't used a message board since before the "world wide web" was created and I've completely forgotten how they work!! How do I send a PM to you when we're ready? Also, I don't really like the username I have now (CandiceJC) is there any way to change it?

We will be changing the name of our Facebook page and use that name for the new Twitter account because we're adding at least two new DIY events for people to choose from or add to their plans for the weekend of Adam's birthday. We're hoping word will spread over time and the first weekend of August will become the "MCA Memorial Weekend"... The two new events don't involve alcohol which is really important to us... We liked the idea of people around the world doing something on the same day with their friends to commemorate the life of Adam but have always had our own concerns about alcohol being the primary focus to memorialize him, we're keeping that event on our list of ideas for people and just adding some really cool new ones for people to do in honor of him.

Also, to others reading this our FB page is a very open community page with 7 admins from around the world, if you'd like to be an admin on the page to represent your part of the galaxy, continent or country just let us know.

Much love,
Candice
