For some reason, the link address for Adam's does not match the text. It goes to Mike's interview.

Did you ever veto a Yauch idea?
He wanted the cover of Ill Communication to be this tree painting. It's actually on the inside [of the CD booklet]. I said, "Anything is better than that tree."
I love that tidbit so much.

Man, that was good to read, but also pretty tough. I can't BELIEVE they were recording. That music will hopefully see the light of day, even if it is just fart jokes. I'll cry like a baby.

C'mon. How ill is that? I'd give anything to see THAT video footage.

Mike on Yauch: "He was the first to realize we had this soapbox, and we needed to do something with it."
YEAH DIAMOND! Love your words!

And Adrock:

"I wrote the lyrics for the song "Gratitude", and Adam was like, "I really like that." It made me happy and proud that I had made him happy."

"Can you imagine making music without him?

I can see making music. I don't know about a band format. But Yauch would genuinely want us to try whatever crazy thing we wanted but never got around to.

It's really nice to see those interviews. I'm glad they're doing okay. They've been around the world and back many times and have been through everything together. I'm sure most of us can relate to losing a close friend or family member. It's going to take a long time for them to heal and move on.

Bernard Goetz
05-23-2012, 08:14 AM
Horovitz: "In a group of friends, you all come up with stupid shit to do. But you never do it. With Yauch, it got done. He had that extra drive to see things through. We each had our roles. One of his was the make-it-happen person."

I think most of us didn't have a Yauch in our groups of friends growing up. I know I could've used one. He was one-in-a-million.

"Yauch was in charge. He was smarter, more organized. ... We each had our roles. One of his was the make-it-happen person." -Adam

These interviews are great. It's great to hear from Mike. It must be hard for them but it would be great to hear an hour long interview with the two of them at the same time. The jet pilot helmet story is amazing.

It was no secret to me that Yauch was the leader but it's cool to hear it from the other two. (y)

On that note, the interviews are wonderful yet still heartbreaking, for me it least. I commented before that what brought me happiness was knowing the time they spent together, they enjoyed every moment of it. The rest just kills me.

I never doubted these two would go on to make more music, just in a Beastie Boys form I don't see it unless they plan to honor Yauch with these unreleased songs sometime down the road. Would be cool to hear whatever they hadn't released.

I am just still so sad..... :/

It's funny I have been getting RS delivered to me. Never signed up but it started showing up one day. Now I am looking out for this issue!

I know some other folks who have been avoiding this place and it's cool because we all are dealing with it our own way. I am not sure this can bring closure but aside from these tribute articles, the park and other ideas we've thrown about I think have been a tremendous help to us all. I noticed that instead of spending all of my time crying I am now just involved in doing good thing in his name.

I could have sworn that Mike asked Yauch about the jet helmet in the Paul's Boutique commentary and Yauch agreed that he made that helmet but didn't use it for that song.

Not to take away from the interviews. I'm so glad they have spoken up. I love what Mike says that Yauch always sounded like a 40 year old. And Adrock's "just tell me where to put my fingers and I'll play that for four minutes"

Well done. I was sure the magazine would have planned something; it was probably too late in the production run for the last issue to do any justice to the man and the band. At least good people got to fire off some good emails. (y)

Yauch again so unselfish and looking out for their best interest rather than his own... (y)

My aunt did the same thing. At her funeral we were all told that she knew she only had a little time left but decided to keep it from us because she didn't want us to worry.

Yeah, I get the sense that Yauch knew he wasn't going to beat it, but he didn't want to worry everybody. The whole thing that Perry Farrell said about Yauch offering him the studio...it sounds like Yauch was trying to tie up some loose ends, so that his family and Mike and Adam weren't completely left reeling when he was gone. Once again, it shows you what a thoughtful guy he was.

So Yauch was with Sheryl Crow on her ranch riding horses literally months before he died? It just doesn't make sense to me. It never will. How sweet of her to offer help and spend that time with him.

And Billy Corgan credits Yauch for saving his life from suicide. Shit is deep man. God he was sent here to do all kinds of incredible things and he sure did accomplish them all!

Yesterday at work I was talking to this new girl and it was the first time I've told to anyone there what had happened. It turned out her husband used to have a record store selling only hip hop and r'n'b so she'd heard of them (she wasn't interested in music herself). I was telling her what a great person Yauch was and all the things he'd done and I said maybe he'd done everything he was supposed to do in this life and it was time for him to continue at another level and then I just burst into tears...

I absolutely love the coverage/tributes to Yauch. I keep thinking most people just don't get what we have lost and then I see the tributes and I think maybe, just maybe, more people get it then I thought. I still get weepy reading articles and my heart just aches for Adam H., Mike D. and all of Adam's friends and family. If it's been this difficult for me, I can only imagine what they are going through. I feel your pain.
Much love to everyone who has been touched by the life of Adam. <3

I feel you on that. Even though he did accomplish so much in a short time, it’s still not easy. And you know we are not alone because Adrock revealed in RS that he was walking his dog the other day and just started crying on the street. I don’t know what I would do if I had saw that! I just hate to think about the pain he and Mike are feeling.

A very good friend of mine died at the age of 25 of cancer the night of Lollapallooza I in Mountain View CA. I didn't go to II, III, IV, V... because I spent that time grieving. I should have gone each year to celebrate his life rather than avoiding mourning his death.

My friend never complained about his illness. I complain about everything. I wish I had the strength he had, and MCA had.

I know the numb feeling Adam is having,...but Adam's is 1,000x more than mine (spent a lifetime with MCA when I only got a handful of years with my friend).

Adam (and Mike) now have an entire second life to live, 40 years possibly if blessed with good health, without MCA.

It could easily take years for the numb to go away. Then there is the guilt on days where you feel good but suddenly wonder if you should or are ashamed that you did.

It's a one day at a time thing. Focus on family and friends is going to be key for them, and it's going to be hard sometimes. It's good to know they are surrounded by love.

It's okay to set the skills aside for a while to heal.

I'm trying really hard to 'send' positive vibes. I don't know how really, but I'm thinking it. Maybe that's a start?

cltaylor12
05-29-2012, 11:51 AM
Yeah, and they took a picture together, and Yauch was wearing his cowboy hat...after reading the article, it all makes sense..

Positive thinking, makes total sense. We're all dying, can't let it stop us from living. Might sound cliche' but it seems for MCA it was a truth.

I wish we could all be that strong.
