Adrock from RS:

What was your reaction when he told you he had cancer?
He said, "I'm gonna be okay." He's been right about most shit so far. So I believe him. You would get swept up in his excitement and positivity. We recorded a few months ago. It wasn't any different from before. We spent more time making fart jokes and ordering food, which was true to form. That's why it always took so long for us to put records out.

Mike from RS:

How much music did you make at your final recording session with him last fall?
Adam instigated it. It could only come from him, in terms of where he was at with treatment. It was stuff we had written or demo-ed, and there were new ideas. He wasn't sure he was able to do vocals. But after a bit, we ended up doing them. And he was fine. It was a way for him to say, "Yeah, I'm doing it."

Can't wait to hear it if they release it.

I'd buy it right away.
1) because I'd be flipping the fuck out
2) because it'd be AMAZING
3) because the price of the album will skyrocket

I feel like it would be available for digital download first, maybe posted on the tumblr or website.

Maybe there will be an exclusive newsletter.

Whenever they're ready, i'd love to hear it.

I'm amazed and hopeful and sad at the same time reading this great news. I see Yauch in the studio just as I imagined him, fighting, no, battling- through his music.

the music will just deepen his legacy, I'm sure even though he was positive to the end, he knew these could be his last recordings. I can't wait to hear what the man had to say in this stage of his life and career...

General Fucking Principal, or G.F.P., are a punk/hardcore band out of California who are working on their first album with longtime Beastie Boys associate, Mario Caldato Jr.. They are sure to get a bit of attention because of the man on the bass, legendary stateboarder Tony Alva.

No word on a release date, but you can at least hear what they will be bringing to the table.

The singer is DFL vocalist Tommy Davis (Crazy Tom) which Adrock was a member of that band for a while.

The drummer is AWOL who was in BS 2000 with Adrock.

I bet it's all very deep. Oh man it's going to be hard to listen to it but for Yauch I will do it. And if he really wasn't afraid what if the message is positive and filled with hope and interest about what's next in store? What if it's some sort of goodbye or message to us all? I don't know I am just trying to comfort myself here about it... Bring it on!

On the one hand I kind of agree but at same time it makes sense to work with any of their old producers or even new ones. But we're getting ahead of ourselves who even knows if this will be released. I kind of like the idea of it remaining unreleased, just to imagine them doing their thing just for fun and enjoying each other's company.

I'm willing to bet that their are dozens of different aborted songs at varying levels of completion per any and every little genre tangent/adventure they chased. With experimental tendencies as heightened as theirs you know the tape was ALWAYS rolling.

I am afraid but also excited about even the slightest chance that they could release an entire album of Yauch tracks. But even if they don't, I don't mind just hearing about it. I agree with Rodie, just knowing they had those special moments together in the studio is good enough for me. (y)

And if we do get something maybe by the time August 4th weekend comes Adrock and Mike D might release a couple of songs to us to listen to at the event. I know that is probably too much to ask but would be cool to have that and play it at the new Adam Yauch park and listen to it together.

So hard. Still so hard. :(

I'm stoked on this if it ever gets released. Though like someone said about production, it should be all kept in house, true to Yauch's vision for the band. Maybe Duro engineers it but that's about it.

I'd like to see Mike and Adam continue as Beastie Boys with maybe Yauch's daughter on the bass for instrumentals and hardcore songs, carrying on her dad's legacy.

Live shows would just have the crowd filling in Yauch's vocals or maybe MMM can use the acapella stuff over the beats.

I think he would want them to carry on. If you look at his writing in the HSC2 Deluxe DVD/Blu-ray thing it seems like he knew he was dying but fooled us all.

I didn't think he was going to make it, and I hate saying that but my feelings were just strong about it for so long. :/ Anyway what I wanted to add was that when I first read that foreword I got the feeling that he knew it might happen at anytime and he just wanted to take the time to express the love he had for his family and he wanted to get this old filmio idea done for the fans before it might be too late. He jumped on the opportunity to accomplish this and leave us with something grand to cherish for years to come. I have the FFYR book sitting in my livingroom on the ottoman and everytime somebody comes over i tell them not to touch the bible and ask for permission first! ;)

Mike's quote about Yauch wanting them to "genuinely want us to try whatever crazy thing we wanted but never got around to." has me feeling positive about future material out of the Beastie camp.

that is a great example of Adrock and D together, for some reason i never considered songs like that rap though. Thanks for the enlightenment!

And Dope Little Song....which definitely lives up to its name.

Oh yea, Dope little song is an awesome rap duo and is exactly like something I have always wanted to see on an album.

I am ... also excited about even the slightest chance that they could release an entire album of Yauch tracks. .

I am excited about the Beastie Boys putting out more music, I think it would be great if they dropped a new cd this year.
I also believe they should use any unreleased vocals of Yauch sparingly. ie one track per album so to speak.
Instead of all at once on the next one.
I also think that would make it easier for them to make the transition back into touring if they ever decided to do that.

I can't believe there's the potential for the B-Boys to put out an analogue to 'Donuts'. Fucking bizarre.

I'm gonna sound equal parts dick-ish and encouraging, but if they do release it, it's going to need to be on some next shit. Isn't it? Or am I being an outright dick? I'm thinking they'd definitely want to do justice to MCA, is all.

My interest for now is in whether a full version of Lisa Lisa/Full Force exists.

facedownfall, I had the exact same thoughts about how they would carry on, but eventually dismissed them. I'd be happy if they could muster something up studio-wise, and leave the live setting alone. Just me, though.

I'll support Mike and Adam for the rest of their days.

The Beastie Boys would never half step at this point after all that happens. Which means one of two things:

1) Either it will be on some next shit. (y)

2) Or it will never see the light of day. (n)

After I got the Nexus-6 reference in Too Many Rappers, I think it's pretty logical to assume MCA knew his time was limited, even if Adrock and Mike weren't as aware. Could seem like a Donuts/Black Bastards posthumous type release could be coming. I don't know. I'm sure they really aren't at the point of discussing that yet although they were in the studio.

I would also expect maybe a few volumes of unreleased tracks and stuff in the future. Maybe even Hot Sauce Committee Vol. 1.

As for new music from Mike and Adrock, I decided not to speculate on that anymore.
