I bought the album when it first came out and I guess I was a little underwhelmed because it lacked any vocals. I was a huge fan of 'Check Your Head' loved the instrumentation and the jamming etc. but I've always liked their vocals. But lately it's been on constant rotation and I'm enjoying it more and more..........anyone else have a similar experience?

I remember when the Mix Up really grew on me an I was playing it flat out mainly on drives down the coast. Id drive with that album on all day. Everytime I hear the track it just reminds me of cruising an tapping my hands an feet.

I've always enjoyed the Mix Up from day one. That was one of my favorite tours too.

I never picked up the extra's album. Has any one else? How is it?

Then I went on to use a heaps of Mix Up songs on my videos an they suited them so well an I put shit loads of work into those videos an now they are down because of copyright stuff on youtube. Was dissapointing.

The extras tracks are just as good as the rest album. If you enjoy The Mix Up, it is well worth the $7 for the extra tracka on Google Play.

Yeah, I felt pretty much like you did. I always liked the instrumental stuff, but I was thirsting for their bread & butter hip hop stuff when it came out. In recent years I realized how great of an album it is and been listening to it a ton (especially this month).

Yauch said no vocals on the Mix Up. And then they won a grammy.

I find their instrumental stuff to be just as enjoyable as the vocal tracks. The In Sound from way out is another great compilation too.

They definitely have a very broad range of music out there. I suppose I never took the time to really listen to The Mix Up because when I wanted to hear Beastie Boys I generally wanted to hear Hip-hop................I guess with Yauch's passing I've actually sat down and gave it a good listen.............. don't know how many of you saw the article on MSNBC, but I guess it pretty much sums up what I've been thinking

The passing of a celebrity you grew up with is a sure signal that you and your generation are now moving faster on the mortal assembly line that inevitably leads to the end. Time marches on and we know for sure that our generation is part of the passing parade, not the reason for the parade.

Damn that article was fucking depressing! :(

I've always liked the Mix Up. But it's my least favorite album in the whole collection. I'm not sure if this idea was incepted in my head by a member of the boards or if I came to it on my own. I heard Hot Sauce and was like "Oh, they HAD to make the Mix Up in order to make HSCP2. Glob Bess The Mix Up!" if that makes sense.

A recent daydream... Maybe we can finally hear The Mix Up/Remix album we were teased with?

I wouldn't think they would do anything more with the mix-up because of Yauch's insistence that it remain an instrumental album.
However, there are quite a few remixes of those tracks on the beastiemixes site.
HSCP2 is such a great album. To me the only album they released that wasn't great was TT5B. There were 3 or 4 tracks on it I liked, but it was kinda lacking (especially when considering the incredibly high standard that they had set). But when I heard HSCP2, I was blown away. I would even say its a little better than Hello Nasty.

I was going to buy this cd since it is one i have not bought yet, but they only had it on vinyl and i was not sure if they had marked up the price.

I did get new copies of LTI, PB, CYH, and AIfuckingST , so it wasn't a wasted trip. you would not believe what i forgot to pick up though..

p.s. I love hastings.

Back when TMU was dropped they were saying they gave a bunch of the tracks to other artists to do whatever they wanted with. The list I am pulling out of my ass was Snoop Dogg, M.I.A. Santigold... people like that. The plan was to release a remixed version of the album. Not Beasties adding lyrics. If that plan was ever actually in the works, I don't see why Yauch's death would keep us from hearing it.

I posted that, but you probably also came to the same conclusion on your own. :)

I just remember Mike D's "fan anger" interview which became something of a meme on here.

I think I've only listened to The Mix Up twice in my life, and the second time was only so that I could add it to my XBox 360 playlist. That being said, The Gala Event was their best tour since the Quadrophonic tour.

Great minds think in a similar fashion. I also coined that phrase. (y)

Anybody know this track from Adrock's "Propellerhead interview " 12.09.2010?

Sounds like a Beasties untitled hidden track from The Mix Up era...

I've always loved The Mix-Up. That album ruled my summer of 2007, I was freshly separated from my psycho ex-wife when it came out. It was also the only Beastie Boys album I could play with my then 1 year old daughter in the car. She would clap to some of the songs. :)
