Good ideas and a good first half, loose script and a difficult ending. Could have been better.
Charlize Theron may as well have not turned up, Michael Fassbinder was really good.
The horror felt forced at times although one scene SPOILER, the self abortion was tense, horrible and pretty successful.
Visually impressive but then again what super expensive Hollywood film these days isn't. Raised some interesting questions, I just wish the script was a whole lot tighter than what it was.

I'm going to go see it tomorrow night with a fellow sci-fi geek. :D We both like books and movies concerning the "The Big Questions" and this looks like one of those shows. And good visuals never hurt, though too many movies these days rely on them for the entertainment rather than a good story.
And I'll admit it: I watch the History Channel's Ancient Alien series :o, though not every episode because their subject matter overlaps so much (they gotta be running out of episode ideas by now!). I also own Von Daniken's Chariots Of The Gods? on dvd.........here's it groovy chillout 70s soundtrack (http://www.weirdsville.com/featured11.html).

If this is Sci-Fi I'm in. It's my favorite movie genre!
warned again; spoilers!!!
ok, i read somewhere that ridley scott said himself; he wondered by james cameron never pursued or followed up the space jockey and make something out of that. alright, we see and know a lot about them jockeys now.... BUT!!
in Alien, which is still more scarier and horrific than Prometheus, the space jockey is still sitting in the pilot's seat of the crashed vessel. in Prometheus, he's ran out to kill Shaw......... ?
and Fifield... why does he just show up and start smashing people up? why didn't he chest burst? i did hear a review saying it did have some nice plot holes. and it certainly does.
thoroughly enjoyed it though. i voted 7 because it did have flaws but it wasn't shit by any standards.

I own this on dvd now, and have seen it a total of three times - yea, I liked it (I gave it a 7). :D
IMO very few recent sci-fi movies have generated this much discussion, and personally I think Ridley Scott deliberately posed many questions to get people discussing those Big Questions he seems to be interested in.
Here's a humorous but still factual 4min review of Prometheus by some reviewers I discovered recently (6,685 comments so far!!):
"Red Letter Media talks about Prometheus - SPOILERS" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x1YuvUQFJ0&)
Their 24 minute full-length/in-depth review:

That's right. I'm always putting out premier material.
