I grew up in the Bay Area (still here) and I guess I never realized how many shows I missed till recently, but to be honest the first time I saw them was in 95 in Oakland on the Quadrophonic Tour. Before moving any where close to San Francisco or Oakland during my youth and at the point I was old enough to go to shows I was living with my Dad out in Brentwood, CA (not OJ Brentwood) it was the sticks and non of my friends liked the Beastie Boys so I could never get any one with a car to get me out to the city to see them.
I missed so much. I did make up for it however as I got older.

Their energy is incredible. I'm in the Bay Area, too, and I think the Quadraphonic Oakland show was my first time seeing them- I have such a terrible memory- even for amazing shows. I guess the next time I saw them after that was at Tibetan Freedom- were you 2 there? I haven't even counted how many times I've seen them! Did you by chance get to the Catalyst in Santa Cruz in 2006?

This is definitely the smallest show I've been to. I found the original video I posted as I was searching for video from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium shows from 2004.

the 1st time i saw them in Austin 1992, man there was not many people there and that confused me, plus L7 rocked so loud that even songs by the beasties like Live at PJ's and The Maestro sounded like hardcore punk rock

Yeah true that, they played at a venue in Auckland called the Powerstation that same tour, which is only about 2000 capacity.
Guess they were sitting on a cult status at around that time.
I wonder if anyone on these boards saw them live in 87. I'd be interested to know how that experience compared to seeing them at later shows. They seem so damn messy at the early gigs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52xcvS7GyzM. Still seems awesome, but theyre rapping along to playback and the rhymes aren't as tight etc. Seems like a whole different band really.
After 12+ years of being a Beasties fan its still hard for me to get my head around the changes of the band between album to album, tour to tour.

oh yea no kidding. I didn't get to see them before '92 but they were so great, I do remember either Mike or Horovitz saying they were trying to get away from that whole LTI thing...It was nice, I had been lucky enough at that time to know most of the words to PB and LTI, and I was blown away by their live show. Even to this day I swear that when Mike was rapping I messed him up a couple of times...but you know how that is.
\
EDIT: At this point, I didn't know what to expect, all I knew was that they drank a lot of beer at their shows...and I was expecting to see no less than ladies in cages lol...glad they made the change!!!
