I love it, its gone a bit silly this series and you can see a lot of it coming now but its not the worst way to spend half an hour.
I havent really ever thought of it as pretentious but now i think about , i can understand that perception. I like the fact its based on not as many beautiful people like that bloody how i met your mother.

TBBT began to lose its appeal after the second season. The laugh track/live audience premise is long overdue to be retired, the nonsensical pandering by Sheldon has reached a point of diminishing returns, and most of the characters have become stagnant and unlikable.

Someone, possibly Joel McHale, put it best when he said something along the line of this:

The Big Bang Theory and Community have moments of intersecting humour, but ultimately one show is about normal people acting like nerds while the other is a show with nerds trying to act like normal people.

I will never understand the appeal of Seinfeld. I respect people's enjoyment of the series and I will never try to take anything away from the series except that I never found one second of entertainment there.


Getting back to the Big Bang Theory, has anyone else notice the endless parade of Reddit darling cameos/guest stars in filler episodes? Wil Wheaton is cool and all, but there's too much shameless pandering on this show. Way. Too. Much.

Its a situation comedy. If people dont watch 99% of it, then a lot of the jokes are missed or refer to previous things and if people are just dipping in then its going to be a bit shit.

I dont think they have written it for nerds to relate to. Again, its people with certain traits in a certain situation.
I really think there is too much negative energy against something that doesnt need it. I dont get how anyone can be offended

The reason for the negativity is justified. The show has devolved into a trendy, tongue in cheek show about nerds to shameless, aimless pandering to "nerd culture". Like I said before, Community has a cast of nine nerdy people who are trying to act like normal people, but ultimately the nerdiness does not define them, and is therefore more relatable. Big Bang Theory, on the other hand, is about regular every day life and every day situations of normal people who allow their nerdiness to be what defines them. The characters are not as deep and thoughtful as the ones on Community.

i just think its something that doesnt need all this analysis. You either like it or dont, I dont think its pretending be anything but silly. Its not a social commentary and its not trying to be a reflection of real scientists living in pasadena. Its pretty daft and not very life like but i think realism is a very hard thing to achieve in situation comedy.

yes its lost its way a bit but from what i can see its more pretentious to hate it.

i never watched it until this past spring - it's my favorite toddler's favorite tv show. she LOVES watching it, and i love hanging out with my best friend and her baby, so i've learned to watch it. it's also always on tv.

but do i think it's funny? the way farts are funny. lowest common denominator. (y)
