View Full Version : Has Capitol Gone Cheap?

Ordered the remastered version of Paul's Boutique the other week. I got it. The packaging is absolutely awesome. The sound quality of this version is also quite good. The only puzzling thing is the construction of the CD itself. It was like a cheap sticker pressed onto the CD, not a high quality adhesive that most labels use. Usually when I've seen stickers this cheap it was like unsigned MCs who had to make the discs their selves. It had that kind of homemade quality.

The thing had a hole in the sticker in fact, so I'm actually going to send it back to Amazon to get a replacement. Has anyone else had this experience? Are the other remastered releases like this? I really don't know what the fuck happened. Could Capitol possibly be getting this cheap with such a major band? Or did the Beasties decide to do this on purpose to make it more bio-degradable or something? So far, I'm at a loss for words.

Never seen a sticker used on any CD or any official disk, they print with paint right on the the disks normally. Sounds like someones switched it for a copy with one of them sticker labeling kits you can get to print your own labels for CDs on it.

well it sounds like a bootleg to me. at first I got excited that the cd was for sale online again, but I wouldn't trust anything on ebay.

I actually tried ordering Check Your Head Deluxe through a glitch in the website here. the topspin site was sold out but I got through with the sammerch site and placed the order. the paypal account that the order processed though was refunded a week later with an apology note.

Get It Together!

OK, I need to revise this, maybe I over-reacted.

After pulling it back out and looking at it more closely, it may actually be paint, but it's obviously a bad print run or something, because it looks kind of shitty. It's like "buckled" near the middle where the hole is like wrinkled wallpaper and there's a big "white hole" that looks like someone scratched a sticker. But it may just look like a sticker, because I can't peel it off. The layer is too thin, which may mean it's paint.

Definitely sending it back to Amazon though to get a replacement.

i got a newer copy of PB recently and just noticed that it does look a lot like a sticker.

Original pressings always own the most imo, remasters are a tad over-rated

U ordered it off amazon is the problem.... Anyone can sell on there and I am not sure why they would want to sell a bootleg cd with original packaging but can you post some pictures?

This is also a reason why you still support the record stores. Man we got a dope one in Portland called 2nd avenue records and they got the good swag. Tons of hip-hop records and awesome staff.... independently owned.... Its the type of place you walk into and they are blasting some punk rock or some hardcore NWA and your like WTF hell ya.... If you are ever in Portland check it. They def have some Beastie Boys wax (and cds) Its kind of like the Pauls Boutique of Portland. 2nd N Oak. (y)

If you say the shipment was damaged during delivery, they send you paid for postage. I do this every time obviously, because they're not going to do anything about it.

I'm also sure it's a Capitol release. It's from the main Amazon store. It isn't supplied through a third party vendor.

I have to agree with you for the most part. Although I really like the double vinyl Paul's Boutique that Grand Royal put out. Much better for DJing and sounds better to because the songs take up more space on the wax.

The sound quality on the CD is better, I don't know, I just don't know why it can't look like the first pressing disc wise. Hopefully, the reshipped one isn't messed up.
