View Full Version : Tour De France anyone?
Starts today.
Not sure how many of you are into drug orgies and extreme sporting events but I'm a fan of both but more of the latter.
I'm mostly a fan of how hardcore these guys are, I can't imagine a fitter group of human beings in the world, 2000 miles over two weeks? A well maintained car would struggle with that - probably not actually...
...anyway. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcxlw6_bouncing-souls-east-side-mags_music (can't find the video without ads)

cant believe wiggins is doing olympics after this.
they're all on drugs:eek:
i have begrudging interest in it though, a few friends are bang into it and i get to hear about it a lot. i've entered a fantasy league team and picked the few riders i had heard of and then made the numbers up by choosing the riders with the funniest names. Christian Knees. Classic.
I have watched it since the late 80s.

Even if you it's gonna cripple you but if you're in the best shape of your life with the olympics at home and a good chance of winning the tour, you're gonna do both and deal with the consequences afterwards.
Unless you crash though, cycling doesn't have so much stress impact like track & field so as long as you're fit - really fucking fit - then I imagine it's mainly carb and protein loading is your main concern injury prevention wise.

I get tired just WATCHING Tour de France (or giro d'italia) :D no wonder they are all druggies
Well Wiggins has lot a lot of fans - unless you're a fan of mardy sportsman. A day when so many have to pull out and/or spend the night in hospital, he throws his toys around over a camera getting too close to him at the end of the race.
I still don't have any allegiance to any team or individual but I always want the lead out group to make it. Mountains today, looking forward to it!
The first real hill was today (y)
I saw. That last 200m looked painful. Must admit, I was impressed with the Sky team today. More mountains tomorrow, then a sprint stage I think - should get an idea then who is going to be contesting overall winner.
Yes, the Sky team did really good.
^For those who believe he was doping (like me), then he did it under the radar with micro boosts. His red blood cell count was always a little too high but within regulation - like a lot of the peloton and something I believe is high in a lot of athletes.
A telling point however is that since the late 90s and early 00s the race has been getting slower while the athletes are getting fitter and bikes are getting lighter & faster. That shouldn't really be the case unless there was widespread doping.
It also could be argued coaches did it without the riders knowing. Armstrong gets picked on but he was the poster boy of "look how amazing the human body can become even post cancer". It's a shame and we will probably never find out the truth. But I do think now it's pretty much clean and far less tolerated.
It was a great stage today.

I think it's interesting that the Armstrong issue has never been resolved. I mean, Roger Clemens, he's been in court and testified before Congress, and just recently found not guilty of perjury. And Jose Canseco - yup, we know the story there.
I saw a 60 Minutes episodes a few months ago with an old American teammate of Armstrong's (can't remember his name, but the knock against him was that he was kind of a nobody looking to make a name for himself) who said absolutely Armstrong was doping. And I think this guy's bigger point was most instructive - that everyone was doing it, it was the culture, it was what had to happen.
I just read this (http://abcnews.go.com/US/lance-armstrong-cycling-team-doctors-banned-doping/story?id=16750719#.T_8V2pEZ8tU) article that basically says the current US Anti-Doping Agency investigation is going to have the final verdict, and is getting closer to Armstrong as 3 of his team's doctors were recently banned for life.

Sad that Cadel isn't doing very well.
Gotta love Tommy Voeckler though.
