I know this has been bantered about before, but I really think this forum could benefit from a For Sale/Trade section. I'd rather keep the stuff we have flowing between fans, having people chime in on authenticity, etc, than be subjected to ebay all the time. I'm part of another vBulletin forum basically setup exactly like this (Militaria) and the sale and trade sections add so much!

Anyway, my .02

I'm a member of a completely unrelated forum that had a very busy buy/sell/trade section that works really well. It works mostly on trust using PayPal for most deals and feedback threads for individuals to give confidence in trading. The mods will get involved on the odd occasion if a trade goes wrong. I don't think the mods here really want/have the time to police this kind of thing but it's a good idea nonetheless.

Adrian - I wonder if we are talking about the same "other" forum. haha. Are you a mod on that forum? If so, that will tell me if we are talking about the same one.

I agree - trust based/paypal centric hub. if the mods on this board don't have time, I'm sure some people would volunteer here to become "sub-mods" and police these things. I just know for someone like myself, who collects some random stuff, it would be a great deal of fun. Oh, and we'd have to get the ability to upload pics but that presents other challenges, i.e. space, etc.

No, I'm not a mod. It's a bicycle related forum I'm talking about and I'm also a member of a skateboard forum that works the same way. I'm guessing it's pretty common.
I'm sure there are a few people, myself included, who would be happy to 'police' such a thread but in the end all you can really do to a bad trader is ban them.
Obviously this site has the sureshots section where photos can be uploaded but even links to photos would be ok I'm sure.

Skate and bikes parts fine. There are millions of different bits that are unused or can be upcycled around.

Here, apart from the odd rare bit (that's already on discogs if they are selling or ebay for tees) all you would get is bootlegs which puts this forum in a position of fighting such fires in a legal minefield.

There's loads of official Beasties releases/memorabilia/clothing that you couldn't find anywhere right now no matter how hard you tried. Sure, there's also plenty of bootlegs out there too but a lot of collectors covet bootlegs as much as official releases. Take 'Some Live Bullshit' as one of many examples. There were only 30 of these produced, each one is hand numbered and I bet you can't find one right now without knowing a collector who has one.
Plus everyone can use the resources of Beastiemania.com to help try and authenticate proposed purchases.
There's plenty of collectors on here who trade with each other outside the forum. It would just be a good place to post want/trade lists etc plus discuss various auction listings to try and ascertain authenticity as well as the obvious buying and selling.

Adrian, the "SOBS" reference is a good one - basically it boils down to who you know, and the market for this stuff is already extremely small. I think a buy/sell/trade section would help widen the market instead of relying on ebay or the off chance someone like Astrobboy decides to liquidate their collection again.

Lastly, it tends to keep the items within the fandom, rather than just going hither and yon.

Agreed. I think a for sale/trade section is a must have for the site.
