I don’t know if this has been posted before, but I decided to reread Dan LeRoy’s book on Paul’s Boutique and was doing some research on the dust brothers and stumbled upon this blog: http://www.adioslounge.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Which had a link to this unreleased performance: https://dl.boxcloud.com/bc/1/24c663b008f3256e648bbb324e179bbd/JolueqOGpciD6dgYhecNBoVpYxkvmYe1ZLheZor6BF4DUBIelM QTkFwYIys3nIibNIIEHUp447tBZLaXDzIbNQ,,/04702072a87ca14b24e7bdbd00703740/

“FYI, this sounds like shit because a) It sounded like shit at the time and b) This is probably a 3rd or 4th generation cassette dub. But, it exists, so be thankful.”

The link says August 16th but the flyer says August 9th.

Right before ‘Hold It, Now Hit It ‘ Ad-Rock is pissed and starts mouthing off to the audience.

Fuck, interesting find. (y) This is the show where Mario said he could hook up decent sound?

Yep, basically the show that linked the dust brothers with Mario C and the rest is history.

very awesome!

didn't Mario add at some point that he and Money Mark were tripping on acid that night at Power Tools? I thought that was in the 33 1/3 book, but maybe it was somewhere else. I always thought that was a crunchy little detail.

Mr McD, on a completely unrelated note, can I just say I seriously enjoy the combination of your username and avatar. I'm not quite sure why it works, but it really does somehow.

I'm blown away by the year!! I've read Dan LeRoy's book a few times and I guess I just assumed the Power Tools show was like 1988 - at least post-Def Jam. Holy Shit this means the Legend of Paul's Boutique stretches back to pre-Licensed To Ill craziness.

Same here. I have picked up a few new things that I didn't notice the first time around.

Thanks for putting up the right link, I thought it wasn't available for phones. The booms sounded good! :D

I always wondered what "Bob's" claim to fame was other than dr drew's side kick. I heard he was in a band but I guess he did a little bit of everything. Obviously wasn't very good at sound, at least on this night back in 1986

That's crazy that there were 1500 people at this thing and Adrock was yelling at them like that. I'd like to see some video of this event-

I agree, I felt the same about the one video where The King AdRock is mocking the way people in California talk, and they start busting balls and laughing.
