I know it's not Beastie related but still pretty exciting.
I wonder who will be behind the decks?

m'eh. They can do whatever they want, but it's not a reunion unless all three of them are on stage. I know it's hard not to bill them as RUN-D.M.C. because that is their names, but it doesn't feel right to me without JMJ in the building.
Run & D.M.C. together again, or something like that would be better.

i can't remember did Run write some LTI songs or was that Russell?
p.s. RUN DMC was the 1st concert I went to as a teen on my own here in the ATX, I am stoked.

Partially. He had JMJ backing him up on the mic in the later years.
Now he has a hype man I believe for his solo shows.
I think people are being to trivial with what name they use for a one off show. It's been 11 years since they have done something like this. Plus the profits go to JMJ's charity.
I see it as a good thing imo.

I love Run DMC, some great, great, GREAT TRAX and classic albums. However, they sucked BALLZ at TFC '99. I can't see them being very good 13 years later especially with D's voice being shitty.
To those who go: Don't expect too much. Seriously.

Or on a positive note.
To those that never have seen the Kings of Queens in person it might be cool just to see them on stage and support a good cause at the same time.

I'm honest with it.

perhaps this is a sign of things to come? is it too soon to suggest a "beastie boys/run dmc together forever" tour 2? I know it wont be the same without our beloved Adam.

2 MC's and no DJ :( pass
I was looking at a photo of JMJ and Yauch together last night and started thinking DAMN who would have imagined this would happen years later. You just don't think about those things... :/ My idols are supposed to be untouchable. :(
I really do miss JMJ too. Nobody can replace him. Maybe if it were another time and place I might not be for this. It’s definitely not going to be the same but if they do perform good or bad I’ll support them.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention. Did you see MMM’s tweets? A fan tweeted him that there was a rumour going around that he’d be Run DMC’s DJ for the show, and MMM replied back. “Rumour has it.” And he then retweeted what the fan had asked. Why not just say no?? Hmmmmmm makes me wonder!

I've seen them once since DMC's dysphonia started. It was in 1999 or 2000 (?). I loved their show. They played a tiny stage in a small, no-frills field house at my university, with no fancy visual effects or anything, and they absolutely killed it.
Caveat: Prior to that show, I hadn't listened to them much beyond hearing "Walk this Way" here and there, so DMC's "different" vocals didn't bother me. I actually liked the contrast between his deeper/mellower "new" voice and Run's more emphatic voice. But DMC's voice did kinda sound like a background vocal almost, from what I remember. And now it's 12 years later, so it may have gotten worse...or maybe he has better control over it now, who knows. I've only heard his voice in interviews recently, and it doesn't sound good, but sometimes vocally-related muscle spasms can subside somewhat when singing vs. talking...so it's possible that maybe his voice sounds better when he's rhyming vs. talking. No idea. Poor guy. :(
Caveat Deux: I think the only other hip hop show I'd seen live before that time was the "Up in Smoke" tour (Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Warren G, Nate Dogg), so that was my only basis for comparison as far as judging how awesome a hip hop show was. :)
Add MMM to the mix and I think it might be worth going to see them!

JMJ's two sons traded off DJ duties. I feel that was fitting. #respect

The criticisms are flying fast and furious in my head, but overall it's just nice to see one of the greatest and most important acts in American music history up on a stage doing their thing again, even missing 1/3 of their soul.

I was lucky enough to be there at the Made ib America show. Run DMC was one of the main reasons I went. Watching the video does it no justice. They sounded great, and the crowd was full of energy and really into it. My only complaint was that their set was WAY too short.
