Sup yall,
I found this on Youtube the other day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBG1AUYxu4Y
Has anyone else stumbled upon this? Where did this demo come from? I wonder if Mike and Adam will one day release more of these. While I know the bboys were known for their partying and drug experimentation during this era, I've always thought they ere at the top of their game on PB with regard to excessive random references and metaphors.
While I realize the band may have later wanted to forget this demo, I did find myself laughing through some of the lyrics.
What was also interesting, is how much grovel Yauch's vocals have. Reminiscent of later albums. The effects used on vocals towards the end of this demo seem reminiscent of HSCP2. Strange to hear the future, in the past.

I am so proud of the men they grew up to be but, I swear, I love when they just didn't give a fuck. My man went from rapping about his tree trunk like appendage to rapping about antihistamines and analgesics. The fact that that talent just does not exist anymore makes me want to punch myself in the face.

LOL, I hear ya. Glad they evolved, but still laugh about their glory days when no fucks were given! Somehow I wonder if Yauch was passing some cheeba around while they were recording this demo. It was the PB era, somehow that wouldn't surprise me heh heh.
I wonder how this demo surfaced on youtube? Is someone digging through vaults at Capitol Records that we don't know about? :P

Favorite Track on Paul's Boutique. It was the only song (aside from Make Some Noise) that I broke down and listened to a few weeks back!
The demos are even better.
Oh and shout to BeastieMixes. It's like a Beastie candyland. So is BeastieMania. :)

There are 11 PB demos out there. The story I heard was that someone bought a DAT of PB demos on ebay.

I think the Car Thief demos are fun and interesting as a peek into the creative process and all, but damn, better than the official release? That might be their best song ever, lyrics, mood and production-wise. I'll take it over the demos 10 times out of 5.

Car Thief is my favorite Beastie tune. I was always upset at shows that they never did it. Has anyone ever seen it live?

It's predictable of me to post in here.
Car Thief is my favourite Beastie Boys song. Hands Down. It's perfect in its continuation and mutation of the LTI theme into something out of this world. And it's just so West Coast sounding, but sort of tongue-in-cheek. Just a stoned beat. The ultimate drug raps in many ways (very smart dumb-jokes), that 'White House' double entendre.
In many ways I like it for the quality of the recording. It's lightning in a bottle; the whole thing sounds perfect. From the beat to the vocal performances, the arrangement, not to mention the layers. It's their 'Gimme Shelter' in that sense. To me.
On a selfish note I had a rad night out the other night with a lady friend and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQHCTDMk0L0) was on the sound system. I dropped my card.
Made better by the fact that they seldom performed it or referred to it. The Demos are bomb, too. (y)

Love Car thief demo and all the demos actually, but that Funk Factory song is the straight money. I have it on a Beastie Breaks record. Co$ign!

It was just a sublime moment; from all the amazing musical and non-musical (both Beastie and non-Beastie) things in the past encapsulated by the Funk Factory track, coupled with its absolute suitability to a very cool moment I was able to live right within, to her ocean blue eyes. #faded
