View Full Version : How's Ya Summer?

Mine is really, really great. I've been working like crazy this year, average work days have been 12 hours not counting some really crazy mileage driving around Puget Sound up here in WA. ST. I've spent a lot of time up in the San Juan Islands (http://www.visitsanjuans.com/) this year too.

Been in a smooth relationship for a few years now with a beautiful woman living here at my pad. I also have a 13 year old nephew staying at my house for the summer who really motivates me to excel, to be much more active and creative everyday.

Now I have 3 weeks away from work and I'm not going anywhere.

Seattle's location makes for the ideal summers, it's gorgeous here. Mountains, lakes, Puget Sound...

So far,

I've caught my limit of dungeness crab 4 times (24 big uns')

Hooked a half dozen salmon. I can honestly attest to be an expert, if not the finest chef alive currently serving salmon. I am the "Salmon Nazi". Cedar Plank barbeque with a light dry rub of various spices and brown sugar.

I kind of stumbled into a situation at Seattle's Pike Place Market where Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell both were doing PR (the campaign) at a coffee shop a friend of my girlfriends work... it was total madness, (1000's of people on the streets surrounding the place) but supercool to see those guys close up.

Hiked yesterday on one of the San Juan Islands, had a picnic, bumped into several deer and a few fawns eating leaves and three deer in a row went bouncing rapidly past us within 10 ft. That's a rush. Especially for my English Pointer, he just didn't know how to react other than stand on point.

Last week I got a membership at the EMP (http://www.empmuseum.org/index.asp) because they have great hands on studio's with some pretty rocking exhibits too. Currently they're showcasing a bunch of sick ass AC-DC memorabilia and live footage that just motivates you to go home and shred the shit outta ya gootar. The kid loves the place.

Have some VIP seats for an upcoming Seattle celebration (this weekend) the Torchlight Parade, right next to the local CBS affiliate doing the live feed.

Going to the Blue Angels and Hydroplanes next week at Lake Washington.

Then heading down to the Oregon Coast for a week in mid August.

Enjoying myself immensely and I sure hope all of you are too!

I agree. My summer's been pretty dull. Just working. It's been too hot to go to the park & I've only made it to the zoo once. I have a proper week off over Labor Day & I'm going to Florida to visit the family. Hopefully it won't be a wasted trip this time. But the best part has been ridding my life of someone who was just bringing me down. Took me, like, 14 years to do that, but I did. :D

Wow, my sister just moved to Anchorage (BTW it's 70F/21C up there today) to get away from a 7 year co-dependent style of relationship. It was pretty dreadful to watch 2 people who just tolerated each other to fend off momentary loneliness. She's figuring with a male to female ratio of 3-1 and distance her life will change.

It's been 2 weeks and she's had 5 dates and dozens of offers.

Hey Thanks, I'm taking the time to really mellow out and see the world like a 13 year old does, when the 13 year old gets off the xbox that is. I'm not a gamer.

No, you don't sound grumpy. Today was like 30C/85F here and it does make most people easily grumpy.

I'm fine because I have 0 obligations to anybody for 3 more weeks and the rest of this week the temps will be in the mid to low 70's/21-23C.

 I think I live in the wrong state. I don't know that I could live there, but, hey, I might be able to see Russia from my house if I did. 14 years was just way too long. Wasn't even a real relationship. Just one night I decided I was done & deleted his number & email & crap. I finally decided I was finished with it for real this time. It feels good.

It's okay, enjoying the cool weather in the UK for a bit, got promoted today, going to an awesome music festival on Saturday and going back to the hot, sandy place on Tuesday.

Cool. What festival are you going to? That's one thing I never got to do when I was traveling- go to a music festival in Europe. Congrats on the promotion.

went swimming for a few hours last night with the kid at the local park swimming pool, it was great. I'll have a few of his friends sleeping over tonight, we're going to a carny and food fest thing set up at the local park. Then I imagine they'll hit the xbox games till two in the morning down in the basement.

These kids, they all have major humor. Going into the 8th grade style of humor. I just play the straight man. it gets pretty hilarious around here with a lot of "That's what she said jokes" and talk of "N.A.R.B.s" Boobs, butts and then right back to cheat codes and team black ops/zombie killing.

They're at a stage where they want girls but have no skills to actually talk to girls, though girls text some of them on a regular basis. Great age.

It's like Beavis and Butthead most of the time.

When they wake up it's bacon fest (2 packages minimum) with scrambled eggs and pancakes. Then skate boards and nerf guns.

I may be sorry for asking, but what does "NARBS" stand for?

It's tough to be around kids that age. You're supposed to be the adult/guardian/quasi disciplinarian & they are just so funny. Like, you want to break out in laughter but you can't. That is one thing about growing up that sucks. I know, I know. That's what she said.

Mine is good. I have gotten healthy and lost almost 30 lbs. I am getting to my goal of 199. I have vacationed in the mountains, kayaked, mountain biked, played lots of tennis and basketball. I take my 5 yr old swimming quite a bit and have been OK dealing with the extreme heat. I have my beach vacation on Hatteras Island in a couple of weeks then my son is off to Kindergarten. It has been a good summer.

So far it has mostly just been working and hanging out by the pool, but next week we are off to go camping in Mongolia. Headed about 3 hours NW of Ulan Bator, out into the middle of absolutely fuck all, where we will sleep in yurt and hang out with the nomadic families and their yaks. Should be quite... different. A total break from crazy big city life. No screens, no wifi, no buildings, no crowds, no roads, no nuthin.

Awesome, all of that sounds awesome. We've been shooting baskets but now I'm going to kick this kid off the xbox in a half an hour and go play tennis, what a great game. I haven't played in 10 years but my serve never waivers.

I like this thread (:

My summer has been pretty gnar (lol that word rules.) i've been sunburnt constantly though, my sun burn left a weird tan on my leg.

I was using a spray can of sun screen and it started to run out while I was spraying it, so you can see where the sun screen worked and where it wasnt spraying (It was spraying air, so I didnt realize it wasnt spraying cause it just sprays a mist) and so when the burn turned into a tan, theres a whole bunch of weird swirls on my skin that arent tan where the sun screen did spray!

Looks like I have a music note on my thigh, the kids I babysit and my little brothers torture me about it.

Took all 4 of them to a water park today, it was a lot of fun.

I ain't done shit but complain. I fucking hate my job, I just keep getting loaded with more and more responsibility with no pay raise, AND got my holiday pay taken away. I haven't been out much because I have to pill my beloved terminally ill cat every night at 10...he's lived 2 months past his expiration and that's awesome and he's a great little guy...but it's getting expensive. He will probably live forever just to spite me.

Going to the jersey shore in a couple of weeks though, gonna beach it up.

I'm jealous of everyone's summers. I think I should move. Sorry to be depressing.

If your shore trip is going to be around the 4th, pop over to NYC. I bet that will make you smile :) Sorry to hear about your cat. Vet bills are ridiculous! My kitty just had a $1200 kidney stone removed. This is the first summer I can remember that we haven't planned a damn thing. My kids keep asking and I'm just not into it this year. My husbands taking them to the Yankee/Red Socks game tomorrow and that just may be their summer vacation :D hope your kitty makes a full recovery :)

Really glad you started this thread yeahwho, firstly is great to hear how people are doing and also because i was going to post about how life is changing for me but didn't really want to be coming back after a little hiatus and start a new thread all about me!! :o

I guess for a whole heap of years i've been whining about still co-habiting with my Ex and how i'm done with relationships forever. So .....we signed the contract yesterday to sell this house, completing in a couple of weeks....i've found a small but nice place to rent for my boys and me, and I've gone n fallen properly in love to boot. This has been such a long time coming, i'm so happy but hesitant to give it a huge Fuck Yeah! at the moment. Except for Dylan....huge FUCK YEAH for meeting him...:) Sun's been shining here in the U.K, even though it's currently pissing it down, life is on the up.

It's been great. Started off with our honeymoon in Kauai and Maui (loved them both, though don't know if I'd go back to Maui) and have been taking it relatively easy as far as travel and such since. Got accepted into grad school and dropped the bomb on my employer, so that's been interesting to navigate and prepare for and all. Went camping with friends, going camping with the hubs in a few weeks. Running a lot, watching a lot of Game of Thrones, cooking a lot, going to movies and shows and other fun local stuff, enjoying the hell out of this city, hanging out with friends and family. Really been a lovely, laid-back summer so far.

Why thank you. I went to Global Gathering, a big electronic music festival which goes to about 6 different countries. For some reason I didn't have as good a time as last year, music didn't seem as good and I went with a bigger group and it ends up just being 'oh, where's everyone gone, which act shall we see' rather than enjoying it.

I hate that when you've had so much fun at something & go back & it's not near as good. Can't say I've heard of that festival. I totally get being with groups of people for something. I always hated going to shows with friends, even just one. Sme of my best memories are shows I went to by myself. Normally get better seats when you go alone too. And most of my friends aren't even into the music I like; so why waste time & money when you're not all going to enjoy it.

Worked last week, all went well but I really would just rather get back to fucking off. I'm taking a drive out the Washington Coast where it's going to be 80+ degrees (http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Ocean+Shores+WA+USWA0313) for a few days, that is rare.

The place we got has a 24 hour indoor pool. I'm gonna eat a lot of seafood and fly a big old pirate ship kite I bought a few years ago. Take me some late night beach walks.

Seattle will be in the mid 90's. Too hot for me. This summer has been awesome. In 2 weeks I'm going down to the Oregon Coast for 5 days.

Anybody still got stuff to do?

Saw Stone Roses, amazing

Took wife and kids to a festival which was briliant despite the mud. Kids really got into it and there werent many kids there but we got a great reaction from other festival goers for bringing them..on the whole.

Olympics was amazing

But now the kids have caught chickenpox which is a bit of downer. Andnot at the same time either so all kinds of balancing time off at work for me and the wife. Oh and i never had it as a kid so i am praying i havent caught it.

Sorry to hear about the chickenpox, people still have chickenpox sleepovers around these parts. I had them when I was a kid and now they say the flashback is shingles.

You're a hero to your kids though this summer.

I have a bit of a heat rash right now, if it were my work week I'd take a few days off (mainly because it's gets sweaty at times when things break) but I'm on days off heading out to the coast. The Pacific Ocean and a swimming pool. Hoping that cures me of rash, funk, blues and a complete lack of motivation at work.

rejuvenation.

I've been back in school for almost a year now, not sure I ever mentioned that here. I started working for the school as a graphic designer. I graduate next June. Right now I'm just working for them and taking one class as that was all that was available to me as an upperclassman. Even just that keeps me really busy. The class is online and it seems like five times as much work as a regular class.

Went to SDCC. All fun while at the actual convention. A little too close to home though as outside of the convention was all dramatics.

Dealing with a lot of family drama on both sides. It seems like a wedding ceremony in the near future means people go nuts or things go bad. Both things that cannot be controlled (loved ones with health issues) or things that can (people acting like dicks).

Thankfully we have each other. Also, posted it in the Family Album, but my man and I got legally married on the down-low even though we have a ceremony in Mexico in January.

So as of this summer, I'm a wife.

Having my "bachelorette" party next week in Vegas. I put that in quotes for obvious reasons. It will be a nice mini-vacation.

Then wrapping up the summer by taking time to ourselves away from the crazy aka everyone, until the inevitable crazy that our ceremony will probably be. Glad we're in Mexico though for that because we can easily disappear if need be.

Oh man, I'm glad everyone seem to be having at least snippets of fun this summer!
Congrats on making it official Crystal!

My husband and I have just been doing a lot of road warrioring/camping this summer since it's our first full summer not spend in western Canada and we want to explore.

We road-tripped to Montreal and then to NYC for my 30th birthday in June and it was good times as always.

Spent a bunch of weekends camping in Vermont/NY state as well as a weekend in Quebec.

Drove all the way to New Brunswick and PEI for the first time in my life, camped a bunch in the area and then spent a few days in Maine aka LL Bean country.
-New Brunswick is beautiful and the coast is rustic and awesome.
-PEI is too cute for words, the entire island is basically a goddamn postcard.
-Portland, ME is basically an equally awesome but smaller scale version of Portland, OR. (y)

Sticking around the home base for a few weekends now because we basically haven't spent a weekend here for over 6 weeks!

Other than camping I am still on the job hunt but enjoying taking multiple yoga classes/week in the meantime.
Also been getting in my fair share of reading/movie-watching/cooking/baking/organized sports playing this summer.

Life is pretty great but I'm actually getting a bit tired of not having a job anymore, I feel like a bit of a drifter without the routine of going to work everyday guiding me.

Ah well, I'll be back here complaining about work soon enough I suppose!

I've been without the internet for almost 3 months now. I had to move out of the maritimes in search for work - It isn't right being this far from the atlantic. It wasn't for nothing tho, I've made great relationships and have been able to reconnect with amazing friends that made the move before me, I've gotten a next lvl ballin job working real far up north, hard as fuck, pays great, away from general society. I've spent time in the rockies/ driving through BC/ all the while making it work with my dog! Things are finally settling down in my chaotic awesome summer, plenty of adventures still to be had!

We haven't really had a summer on these shores - the odd day of sunshine and temperatures pushing 30oC, but mainly it's been constant downpours.

Also, work has been gash and finding alternative employment has also proven to be a pain in the gash. Gash.

Actually most of the time when we had meat it was beef. There was one night when we had chicken, but that's something they mainly get in special for the foreigners, traditionally the locals don't eat fish or fowl (in the part of the country we were in, anyway.) And there was yak cheese at breakfast each morning, which did not taste anything like what I expected - I had guess it would be quite strong and tangy, like a goat cheese, but actually it was really pretty bland, and had a somewhat chewy texture. The yogurt was super sharp, I must say.
