everyone knows atleast one of these people. they'd rather have the shit option over the quality option.

they'd rather go to burgerking than a proper restaurant if given the choice
their favorite band of all time is some generic shit band(nickleback)
their favorite movie is the fast and the furious
they buy expensive gaudy hoodrat clothes and they're from the suburbs
they're constantly drinking rockstar energy drinks
they never miss a jersey shore marathon

it's like they're completely oblivious that there's a better option than whatever the things is that they like. they're happy with the generic option rather than the thing that generic option is trying to emulate(poorly).

wow this sounds really snobby.

i wonder what causes "taste". and how people can fall into a very predictable taste pattern. can bad taste be defined? or is it mostly subjective?

im sure the guy that i described above looks at me the same way and shakes his head over the things that i like. tells his buddies about it and laughs at me :(

i am aware of a british version of this person, particularly when it comes to films. There are a coupla people at work where if they say a film is shit i am 99% sure i will like it. Its happened a lot. Its not snobby of you but i dont think its bad taste as such just different. Some people are happy not to explore or experiment more. I'm a bit like that with food

There are more than a billion people here like that. That's not an exaggeration. It defies belief sometimes.

I have a guy at work that makes fun of me for not liking things that are "mainstream".

He listens to Taylor Swift and doesn't like movies.

I know exactly what you mean.

However, I don't think it's necessarily as black and white as them just having really bad taste. After all, taste is subjective. I think it's more down to a lack of independent thought and curiosity. Content to sit still and be presented with entertainment, culture, food, whatever; rather than exploring a little, trying various things, finding what they think is best.

I've found the best thing about getting older is actually knowing what I do and don't like and having to confidence to just say no if I don't want to go somewhere or watch something. Some people just carry on shrugging their shoulders and doing whatever they see close at hand.

i don't think if something is good or bad is purely subjective. what is subjective is preferences for a certain style. i can't stand eminem. hate him and his music. but i can see why he's good. i can see his talent and originality, creativity, effort. you can't take that away from him. he's talented no matter what even if you don't like his music.

you can say james brown is better than justin beiber. that's fact. it's not subjective. james brown's music is more accomplished thus making it better. styles come and go along with the preferences for those styles. but how accomplished the music is lasts forever(classical music).

a lot of people are just sheepishly fixated on the style/presentation of whatever it is that they like. they pay little or no attention to its actual merits and accomplishments.

something about (this) society (?) or our culture (?) makes it so that peoples opinions are validated and simply because it is their opinion - without basis or merit. "this is good because i like it"

30 million people tuned in to honey booboo. The world is dumbed down. I'd like to say I don't follow the pact. I try and steer clear of trashality, I watch the news and try and keep up with what's really going on in the world.

Most films I watch are indie/international and I haven't watched any of the fast and furious films. My kind of action films are anything from Tarantino.

And as somebody mentioned, Jersey Shore is canceled. Adam Levine had the balls to tweet that he was glad it was finally canceled and maybe MTV will start playing music again.

MTV will never play music again. They are just going to find another dumb show to replace Jersey Shore. Even bringing Beavis and Butthead back didn't work because now they sit around and talk about reality shows. Well it least they talk shit about them! ha.

Ever see that Mike Judge idiocracy film? Yeah that's where we are headed!!

I'm always going to Wendys. Son of baconator is my favorite.
my favorite band of all time is the beastie boys (Quote MCA, we were shitty)
favorite movie of all time is psycho although I tell everyone its 40 year old virgin so I don't look weird
I was just ebaying my awesome 2005 pink and brown BAPE Lil Wayne hoody, now it doesn't fit me (again, Wendys)
Full throttle is my poison although I'm trying to quit all soft drinks
Bought the first season of Star Trek Season 1 on blu ray, willing to pay the $90 for season 2, also cannot stop watching Hardcore Pawn

Am I a loser? Maybe

By the way I tried to autocorrect the word baconator and it gave me "condemnatory" as the only fix option. Maybe this belongs in the "I'm getting fat again" thread

love that film. "Cant come to the door, batin"

i'm just as happy watching the x factor or watching the banksy film or some documentary about emerson lake and palmer. I havent got a filter in that respect, if i like it i like it no matter how cool or uncool.

Good point. I guess my issue would be how much is too much? Yeah of course I’ve watched reality shows before. I am not gonna lie about that. I do limit my intake though. I try and not let it consume me.

I like the “OW my Balls” show in that film. I can see America putting something like that on air. Ha it’s so bad but so hilarious.

I can watch reality shows without thinking they are reality whereas some people take them at face value and dont realise the amount of work and rehearsal that goes on
