I wouldn't be able to have one of these. I'd end up with it clutched to my chest rolled up in a ball crying my eyes out holding something that his hands touched a mere two months before he died like some sad, crazed fan girl.

I'm glad that the funds will be for a good cause. Can wait to see them! I bet they're rad!

That would be the birthday gift to top all birthday gifts :)

I wonder if there is any art work on them? I wonder if Adam was aware that the money (I'm guessing it's just what his 3 boards make) would end up funding a skatepark in his name?

That's probably a pretty dumb thing to say. Of course he didn't know! I'm sure he was excited to do it because it was to help others.

I would probably guess these will bring in at least a grand per board, is that a decent assumption?

this is just incredible. to think of Adam peacefully writing the deepest lyrics he ever created knowing it would go to a good cause. to me it seems like it was part of his process whether he knew he would be leaving this world or not at the time. for him, I'm sure it was healing and comforting.

news tidbits like this are also uplifting for fans, I'm also assuming.

I'm going to go for broke and say they will sell around $3800 each (y)

FYI- just I case anyone here is interested in bidding on one: http://www.tonyhawkfoundation.org/boardsandbands/

they were on display at the Boards + Bands launch at X Games in LA this past summer and there is a sliver of a chance they could go back on display for the public before the November auction...

I had been singing Tom Petty's 'Won't Back Down' all week before this news was released.

Well I know what's right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
but I'll stand my ground
And I won't back down

will definitely be an honor whoever is able to get it.

wow.

so, one song over three decks. you would have to bid on all three to make it meaningful!

I would almost be inclined to go for the fourth one that belonged to BuckyLasek but still has Adam's sig on it with the Free Tibet design.

I suppose the parts are meaningful, too. If one had enough money, one could pick the one with the most significant part for the person.

When I first read about this, I pictured he had put the the boards together and written across them (so that you'd have a third of every line on each board). So the new owners of the boards would have to come together to form the Bodhisattva Vow. I kind of liked that idea, too.

nice.

I imagined Yauch doing the full song three times in a row.

Well it will be interesting to see if they end up getting split or not. I would be happy with one phrase as each part of the song is full of greatness but of course as an uber fan you'd want them all!

I am partial to the flag because he often had it on his boards, but more so because it was such a big part of his legacy.

happy bidding come november!

Confirmation of what we already knew -- Bucky Lasek is way more cool than Hawk. Hawk wanted to "go to the top" and get a Beatle, but he didn't know that Lennon wrote Mr. Kite and A Day in the Life.

One of the best things I own is that TT5B skateboard deck. I hope they raise a lot of money -- doing something that's completely appropriate in the best way.

It's getting close :) you can sign up here for updates when the auction starts. Also mentions that boards will be on display starting Dec 3rd in L A-

There is also a really nice interview I have never seen before relating to Bodhisattva Vow-

cool.

Metallica, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Cliff on board (pun intended).

auction 12/3-12/13 and display at Grammy Museum during this whole time.

also, this ESPN link describes the Yauch/Lasik combo as a 4 pack set and the "centerpiece of the auction"-

If you win them we will definitely throw you a party! If
my $1000 pittance would help you, you are more then welcome to it as long as I get some visitation time with it :) I'm thinking upwards of $10,000.

Oh, I'm definitely not winning the auction. There must be some other way.
