Why does the paying public have to be the Alpha and Beta testing for their new products. The hatred of Google profits has turned Apple into a tizzy and the only way they can compete is by forcing us to look at their sloppy software. Anyway I'm going for the Samsung Galaxy III phone.
I have the iPad and it's basically a toy for movies, games and TV. I never use it to write, work or store music. Because I hate iTunes too.
Luxury problems for sure. But damn Apple is obnoxious. No wonder they're rioting back at the factory.

I have an I Pod - its great. I tunes - not so great
I AM NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT GETTING AN IPHONE UNTIL THEY BRING OUT A VERSION THAT CAN MAKE ME A CUP OF TEA.
I work for a comms company and its sad the amount of people every year who go batshit for the new iphone model and they just cant see they're been taken for a ride for 11 months then it all happens again.
I dont see the point in tablets. full stop.

I like my iPad, it does have its uses for me, but more of a convenience thing rather than something essential, but to be honest, what is? Not interested in iPhones, certainly not to go mental when a new ones comes out.
The only thing I feel with Apple products, is that I don't really own it or have full control over it. I've paid Apple a premium for the 'privilege' of using it, but it's still theirs and they'll do what the fuck they want with it, whenever they want. "Maps? Oh no, we don't want you to use anyone else's, you have to use ours now and there is nothing you can do about it".
MY FUCKING IPAD, PAID WITH MY MONEY, NOW FUCK OFF!

Agreed, you could probably say that about a few things. SKY TV for example, is it called a sky box in US? or is it a fox box?

There is a lot of form over function happening. The products Apple makes look beautiful and they do change the way millions of people do things due to their simplicity.
The problem is that simplicity comes with restrictions and proprietary software that doesn't start up until you give them your VISA number. Then you can open up the goods Apple wants to sell you and an operating system that limits competing software.
I'll take the clunker box that has an open platform to all and is available without demanding my credit card number.

I have never understood the point of an iPad, even though most of my friends seem to have them. It's funny, because I have everything else apple.
I wish that more people hated apple. When I got my first laptop about 11 years ago, I would be the only one at the coffee shop with an apple. Last night, I was at a coffee shop full of people and there was only one person who didn't have an apple laptop. I think we need some healthy competition.

I really don't get iPads either, but I do like my iPhone. I'm comfortable with macs because they're easy to use, but I'm not sure why they're an obsession with some people.
My mom has a non-mac tablet that she likes better than her computer, but I'm not that into it.
I think I'll hold off on downloading the update. I use google maps all the damn time.

I never got the point of an iPad for myself...it just seemed like a giant iPhone without the phone function, and I already had an iPhone.
But...
Last year, I was given an iPad to use at school with my students (preschool through 1st graders). I was thinking I'd barely use it.
Then I discovered that that's what the iPad is perfect for - using with kids for educational purposes and communication. It's amazing how much using a touch screen can increase a kid's motivation to participate in an academic activity (or serve as a motivating reward for completing other less preferred tasks!). It's totally intuitive for the kids to use too - even my three-year-old students with lower-than-average cognitive skills seem to understand how it functions right away.
Some kids who can't speak intelligibly are using iPads as communication devices too, which is really cool, and much less expensive than the traditional speech generating devices ($800 for iPad + communication app, vs. $7000 for a speech generating device).
I still can't see ever needing/wanting one for my own personal use, though.

Yeah, iTunes is kind of shitty. Apple is definitely much better at hardware than software.

I see the Beatles are re-releasing their catalog on vinyl. So that is going to be pretty cool, much cooler than MP3's from iTunes.
Beatles album catalog will get back to vinyl Nov. 13 (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-beatles-vinyl-album-catalog-reissue-20120927,0,4463869.story)
I was just thinking about the time the Beatles Apple corps. sued Apple computers and happened across this information. The Beatles have officially offered their music in re-releases more that they have actual releases now.
I'm just sayin'.........

Mac OS is no easier than Windows - nor is it infallible (seen many a lockup/crash) on a mac just as a pc
Apple is getting good at locking down their product (and at an alarming rate) - limiting user personalization/flexibility/options with the product (a computer) a customer has purchased and now own.
granted Apple has scored big with popularity and obviously has made some strong connections with many software developers (unfortunately Linux has not)
I would say marketing is still the key component of Apple's popularity - oh and their browser is a piece of shit

Yes and yes. They have an excellent marketing platform and have mastered the art of salesmanship. The apple stores have the highest revenue of sales per sq. ft. on earth.
Apple also has an amazing public relations department too. I heap praise on their business platform. Like the recent immediate apology for the iphone maps app.
(http://www.forbes.com/sites/connieguglielmo/2012/09/28/apples-apology-over-maps-earns-praise-criticism-and-what-would-steve-jobs-do-second-guessing/) That's the way to generate some good will while admitting a mistake. Even my local services avoid admitting they've made mistakes, let alone cable, cell providers and satellite operators.
It's all peachy keen but, I'm just not very fond of Apples products.

from the icrap post back, I had just traded in my ipad for the macbook air. I decided the ipad was limited.
I like the macbook air, but fuck apple. I would be $700 ahead with the PC or whatever you call the non-apple shit.
The macbook air is cool how small it is though.
Ava has the ipad touch and the droid is much more user friendly/cheap. The apple, you have to pay to play.
My main PC is a windows desktop (I'm a relic) and I have a windows phone.
I use to hate windows and used Linux mainly but Microsoft changed and decided to get along with developers.
I don't like Apple even though I haven't had a product of theirs for 10+ years - it's their image they portray. I never liked the "you're nothing without one of these" marketing ads. And I hate the fact that google, microsoft, samsung & apple can't just get along to speed up innovation rather patent trolling each other.
Anyway, it's not to say they won't turn in my favour like microsoft did, but their lock down policy doesn't mix well with my socialist 'share the wealth' views - they would have to have a corporate lobotomy from their current stance.
But there is enough sheep in the world in world to make that cash mountain higher for a period and then they have 20 years of being able to compete from their 2005+ success. They ain't going away.

That's the advantage of placing things like branding and design over everything. I'm not saying Apple wasn't ever groundbreaking, ingenuitive and original, but now, they don't need to be, they can just ride the waves of their recent past and can afford to fuck up and it not hurt them.

remove the silver case and logo and you have a pc, people are paying up the ass for looks
yes they are aesthetically pleasing - but limited nonetheless

ya i think all these people waiting in line for new iphones every 10 months are such sheep.
they tweak a couple things and people spend 6hundo or so bc they arent up for an upgrade. wack ish.
and the iphones not even that great compared to the top notch droids. they are pretty on par with each other, both have some better things imo. same goes with mac computers, i know so many idiots who get a mac and brag about it but dont do shit on it other than surf the net. its like you could have spent 500 on an hp labtop or something similar and done the exact same shit without being a trendy asshole.
i am a big fan of ipods though. i need to get a new one, my one of 5 years got broke while cottaging this summer. #drunkcottagingproblems had 12000 songs on that bitch. lucky they were mostly all backed up on an external but still going to be a pain in the ass to put them all back on a new one.

i reluctantly bought an ipod this year. had to because no one really makes any other decent mp3 players anymore. everyone latched onto the ipods and everything else out there got ignored. there use to be so many good ones other than ipods and much better. im pretty happy with it but i don't use itunes at all. i use third party shit to transfer all my music. itunes will completely fuck with your music collection if you let it.

i have 3 none apple mp3 players and they are all easier and better than Ava's ipod when it comes to uploading and sharing with other devices.
Seems apple is great if you commit your life to it exclusively and have cash to burn.
I have a Mac at work and love it. I have an iPod and an iPad that I am not so high on. My 1st generation iPad is dropping me from sites and giving me problems. I think if I replace it in the future it will be with a Samsung tablet or a laptop. I like the iPad but I become more disenfranchised every day.
