seems I remember Mike D talking about Back in Black with ac/dc and getting denied. The more I think about it the more I think AC/DC made a mistake.
I can think of several songs that I have in rotation as a result of hearing the sample from the B-Boys. Seems AC/DC would have everything they have right now and more if they had made the right decision.

And ACDC has since started pimping their songs out to commercials and allowing the sampling of their stuff. Hypocrites

Yeah I heard back in black in a walmart commercial a couple of years ago. What a joke. Maybe now they'll let them release Rock Hard. I would love to hear a high quality version of it instead of the low quality mp3 ive been listening to for years.

I agree.
I find some of their choices confusing. Their songs aren't available for individual purchase on iTunes, either.

Whoa, y'all dissin' on the biggest rock band of all time.
AC/DC has never been into other people/bands sampling or using their songs. They arent even on itunes!
Yeah, the walmart shit is stupid, but i dont think Malcolm, Angus, and Brian really care/know...watch the episode of that metal show with Johnson...he talks about all that stuff

Whether the greatest rock band or not isn't the point. They sell out like crazy now. There was a Back in Black Justin Timberlake song for Heaven's sake.

well it was the walmart ad that got me thinking.
Granted AC/DC did not realize the greatness the Beastie's would accomplish. So its like a bet they did not make but looking back they should have.
not to mention that walmart crap is weak

I never knew that Nelly/Timberlake sampled the exact same song. that's wack.
double standard. I thought they don't like their music being sampled?
Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Rolling Stones called. there's no room on the mantle for greatest rock band of all time.
sorry, AC/DC (and their fans)

Creed and Nickelback have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide combined.

so ive been thinking: hate the game don't hate the player.
I guess if you get old and want to sell out to Walmart, why not.
Think of all the fans that are like "no way I am selling out!" and they cant pay their bills. AC/DC cashing in because 40+million albums was not enough already. Being that looser fan hanging on to the idea that AC/DC is actually rock in roll is the mistake, not AC/DC getting paid to sell out now because they are old.
"We're putting the Rock in Roll back in Rock in Rock in Roll"
When I get old, if I make it, maybe I will do whatever the fuck I want to also.

Maybe AC/DC listened to 'Rock Hard', didn't like it, said 'Nope' and that was that.

So ACDC are defiant, don't-care-what-you-think rebels because they sold out?
Interesting spin, but I think Yauch would disagree.

I believe it's economics. I'm sure the Nelly/Timberlake money was a lot bigger than what Def Jam could put up in '85.
On a side note BDP sampled the same song in '87 and I'm pretty sure they didn't get sued. (don't hold me to that though)

I think you're right, I don't remember ever hearing about BDP getting sued over that.
However, it seems that in Hip Hop there is always the prospect of getting sued, doesn't matter how much time has passed.

There are more than a few times when I listen to 'Rock Hard' and don't like it. It's a really basic track: more of a Rick Rubin, 'She's On It,' rock mash-up than what the Beasties are really good at. 'Cookie Puss' is so much better. '85 was a completely different time, though. If AC/DC is licensing their records to Nelly and Wal-Mart now, I'm sure they've just changed their minds on what it means to "sell-out."
I love AC/DC, by the way. What's better than Angus Young? He's pretty fucking Beastie if you ask me.

All the AC/DC fans that I personally know of are rednecks. Plus I had to hear "Thunderstruck" at every fucking high school sporting event. The song literally strikes a gag reflex.
Therefore they are in my top 10 of most shit bands.
But whatever... To each his/her own.
I understand why people like them. It just doesn't do anything for me.

THANKS dude, someone has good music taste. I mean i get if you "really dislike" AC/DC, whatever...but you can't deny that they are one, if not thee, biggest rock band of all time. People have their own opinions! & most of the people love negativity, thats why they're dissin'

If this was a shot at me, let me explain. I was just talking how I don't personally dig them. People are allowed to have opinions on music and art without having to be sheep and agree with the entire populous. I could say that Daft Punk is the biggest band of all time and people would look at me like I had two heads. I wasn't trying to negative. It's all subjective. I was just stating my personal opinion.
I personally do not think that AC/DC is anywhere close to the top three rock bands of all time. Not even by a long shot. Not even close. But that's my personal opinion. Not trying to be negative. Just how I personally feel.
Once again...

I don't even dislike AC/DC.
But I simply don't think they're one of the biggest acts ever... I didn't think they were in the discussion.
they've got some memorable riffs and tunes, I just never knew they had such a huge album in Back In Black.
to each their completely own
