Hurricane Sandy is approaching. The New York Times put a camera on their roof and it's taking high quality pictures repeated every 60 seconds.

everyone is freaking out around here because of last year's tornado, hurricane, and blizzard. everything is closed down today and there's only suppose to be slight high winds and rain. nothing really seems to be happening right now. it was windier earlier. just another chance for the media to hype shit up and cry wolf? people are gonna get sick of this shit sooner or later and not take future warnings seriously.
im in western MA. i think we're suppose to get the worst between 2pm and 8pm today. so far... nothing.

My Moms is in Philly and they are on the verge of getting some crazy ass weather.
Be safe peoples.

i was already not sure how to feel about it on account of how much i don't trust the media when they go crazy about things anymore, but this one felt a little different. they even shut down the MBTA (boston public transportation system) this afternoon, which doesn't happen often
work made me come in, but let us go home once the MBTA announced it was shutting down. i work near the seaport area, and it was windy as a motherfuck even early in the day, so i think it's pretty bad there. some parts of the state are getting hammered with power outages (http://outage.nstar.com/outage/ ).
my home neighborhood (somerville)'s been alright...it went out for about half a second here but came back and hasn't blinked since. the wind's been whipping at the walls and shaking the house here and there--something hit it earlier in the day, sounded like a tree branch or something, but no big damage that i can tell
areas near the coast don't look so good though

Definitely not overhyped if you are in a woodsy or coastal area. We already have one tree down.
Stay safe, everyone!

Our house in Jersey City apparently has 5 feet of water in the basement plus a very soggy ground floor. So the boiler and heating system are fucked. Plus whatever was stored down there. Flying back as soon as we can to deal with it all. Major drag.:(

Yikes, that sounds really bad. Hopefully some insurance or relief money can help repair structural and heating repairs. I know I have a bunch of really cool stuff I collected throughout the years in the basement and garage, a flood would freak me out.
Sounds crazy, up to the neck water in the basement.
