NBC Nightly News ran a nearly 5-minute montage of all notable media personalities that passed away in 2012 (from actors and singers to writers and even essayists) and there was not ONE mention of Adam Yauch.

That's weak. There's some magazine on stands talking about people who died and while it mentioned him, it was a terrible two paragraph blurb. The first paragraph just talked about genres of music and didn't even mention him or the band. The second paragraph was just generic and wasn't much better. Media sucks. No offense Mr. J

They showed photos and discussed him as well. They talked about his transformation as an artist.
