I've always thought it was kind of interesting how throughout their entire career they kind of just brushed that song off and never played it or ever really even ackowledged (with obvious exceptions like greatest hits compilations) until the recent video. It's arguably the song that they are most known for. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other bands/musicians that always tries/tried to distance themselves from one of their biggest songs. I only follow a handful of other bands and not as closely as Beastie Boys but I can't think of any examples from the bands I like.

Radiohead- Creep
Nirvana (when Kurt was alive)- Smells Like Teen Sprit

Are two I can think of.

But to what your saying I remember at every show of the beasties I went to people would scream for Brass Monkey and I never heard FFYR from the crowd. I think real fans are in the know.

Though Radiohead opened their Reading set in 2009 with Creed so haven't completely turned their backs on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhjPDY50Jgs

Pantera made four albums in the 80s before Cowboys from Hell that they totally ignored/disowned in their later career. Though they weren't nearly as successful so maybe not the same thing.

Found this list anyhow: http://www.spinner.com/2009/08/14/i-hate-my-hit-10-songs-disowned-by-the-people-who-made-them-fam/

Satan Gave Me A Taco seems to get endlessly requested for by loud people at Beck shows but dont think he ever plays it.

True. I have seen Radiohead play creep. I just meant there was a time where that song drove them insane. I guess that got over it
