You must be part of the 4000 in some way or another. I know I have been hoodwinked to download a trojan MP3 of the NixCastor Nike and the King Ab-Cock live performance called Ask for JamIce. Need to read more carefullly in the future.

She "must be..." based on...???

To be honest I have no idea what everyone is on about, really. I thought the proliferation of Facebook pages was mostly to do with people being fans of the band. Perhaps there are some folks using the sites for malicious purposes (selling a fake LP or giving you a virus?) or have simply created shitty facebook pages (not surprising really). Cannot really see the difference between this and the proliferation of web-pages / fan sites before Facebook (there must have been 100's of lame Beastie Boys web pages back in the late 90's).

Perhaps it is worth searching for them using the wayback machine (or maybe not). Below is my fave Beastie Boys site circa Dec 1998:

Anger should be at least directed to those deserving of it. I would hope. Each time there is a "beastie" event, there is a new fb page generated. I'm sure most fans (especially the younger ones) have created a FB page. Sure there have been some created to "hoodwink" some ...
To come right out and accuse someone of being apart of "it", just seems wrong. IMO

Although I don't feel like I need to explain myself, I'm actually not apart of the ongoing Facebook pages, I've had to unsubscribe from a couple because of all the notifications I got. Lol
I mainly like "Beastie boys fan page" by Jo and the Mca one she has because they have rare pictures.

AMEN

that was my other beef...making me an admin without asking and then having my phone blow up every 2 min over 'who's sending who postcards'....

this thread also goes for Twitter & Instagram....personally I think it's disingenuous to name your page or whatever 'beastie boys' or 'mike d' only to find out it's some wacked out fan and not someone connected with the band....even Miramanee wouldn't do that...

one positive is the Beastie Boys Brasil FB page....they post some pics I've never seen before....the rest are counterproductive run by heads who need attention!

You know I have never really checked out these Facebook and other social network sites devoted to the Beastie Boys. I used to go to mic to mic blogspot, but that seems defunct. Beastiemania is quite functional. I definitely like any site with rare photographs or tracks though. Some of the YouTube channels are good.

What I do not understand is some of the comments people post regarding Beastie Boys on their Facebook page -- I feel quite disconnected from some of the band's fans when I go there, that is for sure.

One of my favorite quotes from the skills to pay the bills book:

"Our professional lives are in a lot of ways separate from our personal lives. We hang out with our friends or whatever, it's a different thing. Our friend Ian, who works on our website, forwarded me some postings of fans talking to each other, I read some of it - and quickly stopped reading it. It's just weird their impressions of us and who we are, how they perceive the band."

Sigh. The ups and downs of being famous.

The difference between a fan and a fanatic is that while both have an overwhelming liking or interest in a given subject, behavior of a fanatic will be viewed as violating prevailing social norms, while that of a fan will not violate those norms.

A fanatic differs from a crank in that the latter term is typically associated with a position or opinion which is so far from the norm as to appear ludicrous and/or provably wrong, while the subject of the fanatic's obsession may well be "normal", with only the scale of involvement being abnormally disproportionate.

A fan would collect merch, go to shows, maybe get a autograph if they met the band, and belong to a messageboard.

A fanatic would collect every piece of merch they can find and afford, go to shows, buy autographs online, and belong to a messageboard.

A crank would collect every piece of merch they can find and afford, go to shows, buy autographs online, belong to a messageboard, and photoshops their images into a pictures of the band.

Everyone takes their obsessions with this band to different degrees of what makes them comfortable.

To sum up. I don't give a fuck what anyone else does. Do you. I'm just going to be me. If you like me, thank you. If you don't like me, thank you.

I come on here a lot because I like to keep in touch with what's going on in the Beastie community. I've made some friends on here during the past years. I've met a bunch of you at shows and we've kept in touch through out the years mostly on this messageboard. I'm not a member of any other Beastie "fan" blog, Facebook, or what have you. I come here. I like it here.

I miss the old board during the HN to TT5B years. When we would meet up at shows, count down the days for new music, and trade tapes. That sadly has gone away. That said, it's been a nice long run on this board but if I woke up tomorrow and tried to log on and it was no longer running I wouldn't be sad. Everything has to end some time. Sorry for my ramblings and the long winded post.

Peace.

I enjoyed that post as well. I would like this board to be maintained continuously (and archived) regardless of what the future brings.

what does this mean exactly? anyone with a head on their shoulders knows they didn't do dust or shoot guns, but they were rappers.... If you're doing hiphop music then certain things must be true...otherwise your faking it.
personally, i think adrock is the one that was always most into the hiphop culture....it's evident in that vid with champagne jerry.
this quote's kinda disheartening...

It's all about context. I would think you would have to know what those "posters" were saying first, right? Either way, IMO, not sure how that could possibly be someone's fav quote?

It's always been one of the most interesting quotes to me, because Yauch is explaining how it feels to be famous and what its like to see/hear people talking about him and the Beasties, how people react to him. I put myself in his shoes or any of the beasties for that matter, and how many people love them and look up to them, it would be kinda freaky for a while, ykno? The quote kind of stuck out to me....Its hard to explain.

It is a great quote. The reason that I like it is that I knew Yauch through a close mutual friend. He was a soft spoken humble man. Incredibly kind and if you did not know he was in the Beastie Boys, you would never know that he was a rapper or superstar entertainer. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone here. I think some fans have (or had) strange ideas of whom Adam Yauch was.

I've had a handfull of moments being around the B-Boys and Yauch was always the most quiet and shy. But a couple times he'd drop something funny out of the blue and he'd get this little smirk. Awesome dude. Sorely missed.

Thank you Micodin, that has left a nice image in my mind. It makes me quite sad to think about him being no longer around to make others feel that way. I know he has left such a legacy personally and professionally. But I am still sad nonetheless. Maybe our collective memories, his music, political influence, and reputation for all things good can inspire us all to be better people and good to one another. This way he can be with us regularly in a positive way, rather than as a incessant sadness in our hearts.

I don't think your "mutual friend" has told you anything that the rest of his "fans" don't already know about his personality. So why wouldn't that "not make sense to anyone here?" I don't think i have ever read anything on this message board to the contrary.

Edit: also, again, aren't you assuming what Adam felt were misguided opinions in those posters comments?
