Awesome but too "hot" to be liberating for me. Miss MCA, miss the Beastie Boys and missed so much hearing it live, it would have been totaly liberating then, an explosion of joy and happiness for sure.

NDP is brilliant, i know they said they tried to sound like a few acts on that but i really dont think anyone else could have made it. it is great but adrocks first verses are so unbelievable the rest does kind of pale in comparison imo.

Such a Super Record.
I look forward to hearing Part 1 -- I am prepared to wait until my dying days, if it takes that long. Hopefully Part 1 will be released sooner so I am not using a walker or in a wheel chair busting my moves in the old age home. Although maybe that would be good too depending on the gerontological medications of the future ;)

"I get so hyped when I this song"
I love HSCP2. I'm very grateful for such an amazing album.
The beats, the lyrics. All three of them kill it on this album. Each one of them has a versue that I get so stoked on.
Thanks guys.

Tadlock's is one of my favourite tracks in their entire catalogue. I love the title of the song in light of the lame (on my part) assertion that HSC was a wacker album title than Tadlock's Glasses.
Multilateral, too, is one of my favourites in their entire catalogue. Always stood out for me, and has only become more powerful since Yauch's passing. Amazing track.

It's one of the iller verses dude ever spat. I can't help but wonder when he wrote it. Part of me always thinks it was late in the HSC2 process.

i find it kinda crazy how perfect Lisa Lisa/Full Force Routine is as "the last song"...just the way it captures all the elements of their music over the years in such a short song and ends with a shout to NYC of course...and Yauch is really the last voice heard. incred.

Tadlock's, B-Boys in the Cut, Make Some Noise, Long Burn The Fire, Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament, Lee Majors and possibly Say It and Crazy Ass Shit are among my favourite Beastie Boys tunes ever. They'd make an 50 song playlist, put it that way.
Great record, and a great sounding record at that. I really kinda like how it was just the 3 of them too, I know they had a hand with the mixing, but it's a comforting thought knowing that they'll have some great memories from the last few years at the 'scope.

I disagree to a certain extent, but I don't wanna turn this into a TT5B grievance thread. I'll just say that it would have made me sad if TT5B was their final album. HSC2 followed and it was far superior.

This album probably is my favorite Beastie record. They had a lot of time between records but their perfectionist attitude is what I love in an artist. Not about putting out a record to make it on the club list for the year. Damn. I honestly haven’t listened to the record in awhile but the music plays in my mind all the time.
I would say Tadlock’s is my favorite track. The rest of the songs are so good that it is really hard to put them all in order. But Tadlock’s I can easily say yes, that’s the one.
And thanks BEN for putting up the funny shit like Beastie’s backstage with Run DMC, Those clips make it easier for me to get back into listening and watching them without getting totally down. I just laugh!

"1 DVD Disc with 5.1 of HSCP2 album, remixes and videos"
essentially, it's the video cut and the extended cuts of FFYR and Don't Play No Game, with a 5.1 version of the full album as well as remixes of the aforementioned two songs, and a Blu Ray disc of all the same. (I don't even have a Blu Ray)
but it's the hard bound book that really completes the collection. some of those photos are just heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time...

I would recommend the book to any fan. It sits on my living room table. Yauch spent a lot of time on it and you get an insight to his way of thinking and creativity. I love reading the notes he put, or the script of the videos and the little things he wrote on how he wanted everything to fall into the place for the filmio!

Sounds well worth it just for the book alone, thanks :) I'm going to order it now especially since there are only 5000 copies. Who knows how many are left and at that price.
Funny you say that about not having a blu ray. We have just about every new gadget out there including a "smart" tv and still don't have a blu ray player  I'm starting to notice that blu ray is becoming standard and not so much an option so we may be forced to get one.
That site is cool, thanks Micodin.

I just read his essay from OScope's "Emptiness in Compassion" about the Dalai Lama in NYC 2010. his writings on Buddhism gives me the same feeling, and it was dated summer 2010 from Nashville Tennessee. when I have some time I will try transcribing it...

Long burn the fire is my favorite song on the album. That song is going to hold up for the next decade. Sooo good. For me the bonus tracks, pop your balloon and bboy in the cut, are next in line for my favorites.
Yauch shines throughout the whole album.he always gave his best effort and continued to grow and mastered his craft. Impressive, and a role model for all

I haven't listened to it much at all since MCA died, but I can say without a doubt that track for track it's my favorite album they've done since CYH, which is my favorite album of all time by any artist ever.
I plan on popping it into the car very soon. For the last year or so I've been listening to pretty much LTI and CYH, the two albums that got me into them as a very young kid (I didn't even know PB existed until 8th grade), almost as a way of recreating what Yauch did for me, molding my little brain into the hip hop mind set from seven years old on.
So yeah, HSC2 is indeed an amazing record. A record only the Beastie Boys could have made.

let me disagree ... for me(!) HSC2 is not an incredible record. it´s kind of "over-produced" and lacking instruments. after those "special instrumental gala events" i expected more instruments on their new album(s).
my album chart looks like this:
1. Check Your Head (1992)
2. Ill Communication (1994)
3. Paul's Boutique (1989)
4. The In Sound From Way Out! (1996)
5. The Mix-Up (2007)
6. Licensed to Ill (1986)
7. Hello Nasty (1998)
8. Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011)
9. Aglio e Olio (1995)
10. To the 5 Boroughs (2004)

I have been alternating my cds out ... CYH, HN, TT5B, and yes I like them all...
But when I have been playing HSC I have been loving it. I like the fact that when HSC is playing I found something new that I like more than what I liked the most the previous time. Finally, I say it is a great album over produced or greatly produced, I say greatly.

I think hsc2 might have more "instruments" than one might think.
ie- most if not all of the drumbeats are organic, played by Mike. all of the synth and guitar stuff, adrock. and basslines, Yauch
outside of the obvious Lee Majors, the "instrumental" stuff is hidden...

The album is obviously packed with their own instruments. It's just layered very well in the mixing and mastering process. A testament to the work Zadar put in. But, you can hear Yauch's signature bass lines and Adrock's guitar and synths. Mike's drums pop up every once in a while.
It's less in your face than what Mario C used to do with CYH & IC. Where it almost sounded "live". But, that's what makes HSCP2 fun and a different sound than what they've already done in the past. It was supposed to sound new and fresh.
You can hear the difference from TT5B (that was almost all software production) to HSCP2. It's a no brainer.
I do make beats and produce records and tracks for a living or a hobby.
