Yuck. Vanilla Ice putting himself in the same category as real, respected Hip Hop groups like RUN DMC and Beastie Boys. I can't believe he didn't get struck by lightning after he said that. In basketball terms that's like Brian Scalabrine putting himself in the same category as Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. I feel the same way. I remember thinking that back when I
recorded the clip in 1998. But I included it in the Compilation
only because it is Beastie related , and kinda funny ! Vanilla
Ice is no Run DMC or Beastie Boys - that was comedy for him
to say that. Do you think the friends that Courtney Love
might have been talking about was may'be Ricky Powell and

Rumor was that MMM made a joke about Marilyn Manson's attire and Courtney Love overheard it (and was coked out of her mind) and blasted the entire band and made a scene.

She's been bitter with the Beasties starting when Capital passed on Nirvana and gave the Beasties and huge contract in the late 80's.

Nirvana also wouldn't go on the Lalapalooza tour because the Beasties were headlining.

I thought Ricky and Beastie Boys had gone separate ways by 1998, but I don't know.

I bet Courtney just strolled into their dressing room acting inappropriate (possibly wasted) and expecting a big welcome (because she thought that she was a bigger star than she really was). They probably were unimpressed and uninterested in talking to her, and she was probably offended. I seem to recall Madonna having this sort of experience with courtney on camera with Kurt Loder.

Love's prickly personality exploded backstage-when hoping to bond with a enlightened adam yauch-the would be spiritualist dropped by the beastie boys dressing room with her yoga instructor in tow. the hole frontwoman, apparently not realizing that the beasties were onstage accepting an award at the time, took their absence personally, cursing up a holy storm (fucking attitudinal assholes...) right in front of her yogi, who later returned to apologize for her temperamental pupil.

Yeah I'm not sure which story is legit. Yours and brass monk's sound interesting. I guess we'll never know forsure the legit version. If is it true that nirvana had beef with the beasties, that would be crazy. Always have liked nirvana, but after this... Hmmmm

I think Cobain hated everybody.
There is a certain strain of rock star that rolls like that.
However, Cobain's hate towards other artists seemed to come from an uglier more insecure place than other rockers of this breed.
Johnny Rotten, Axel Rose and Liam Gallagher were more entertaining when they riffed with other artists because it didn't seem like it consumed them, they took it really seriously or lost any sleep over it.

Tobi Vail is the one that had a long relationship with Kurt Cobain.

Kathleen Hanna was roommates with Tobi Vail the drummer of their band Bikini Kill.

Kurt used to borrow Tobi's deodorant a lot. So, Kathleen wrote "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" all over the wall.

Cobain's relationship with Vail would inspire the lyrical content of many of the songs on Nevermind.
