Just so no one gets excited, the song is "And What You Give Is What You Get" from Demos and Outtakes. I've had this song forever. Nothing newsworthy here...

It's originally from the "Exciting Evening at Home with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego" 12" single.

I have a cd promo, but it's official. Does that count for anything?

Bluhd, I'm "#1 super fan of Beastie Boys" so I've got at least 3 copies of the OG vinyl, plus the CD promo, plus a bootleg.

Be warned by reading this you are entering into Beastie Nerd territory.

To be fair, this is a new track (kinda). The version in question first appeared on this site for play when the announcement for the Paul's Boutique Remastered Edition was announced. When it first showed up there was some discussion about whether or not the track had been remastered, and how it sounded different. When we got the PB remaster it didn't include any B-sides, and most people forgot about the fact that this track had ever surfaced as a potential remastered B-Side. The original audio on the site was provided through TopSpin, and an enterprising individual who will remain nameless (not me) was able to, shall we say "research" the TopSpin site. They found a page not intended to be visible to users other than the artist, and the track was for sale for $.99. It was listed on Top Spin as "remastered". I bought the track and downloaded it. I compared the track (distributed as a 320kbps MP3) and the original side by side in Audacity to attempt to see if the track was indeed remastered. Although I am certainly not an expert, I am pretty confident that this track had been tweaked. The track was removed from Top Spin within a day after I downloaded it. The interesting (to collectors) was that the audio was clearly recorded from vinyl (you can hear the needle hitting the vinyl label at the end of the run out grooves). That meant that somewhere out there there was at the very least a vinyl (probably test pressing) version of a remastered B-Side, which of course was never released.

Fast forward to February 2013 and Ian has a new initiative, releasing this track to anyone who calls the number. When I say that this is the same track (which I believe is the remastered version) I mean EXACTLY the same track, down to track time, amplitude, file size, etc. that I downloaded in 2009. So this begs the questions... Were other B-Sides remastered, does Ian have them, will they ever be released, were they pressed on vinyl test pressings, if the Bboys do have them will they possibly be distributed by as MP3's (a sad way to release remastered versions, but better than nothing).

So I warned you it was getting nerdy in here, but this is really the kind of thing I get excited about. Props to 9thBeastie for digging it up.

I just tried to do this (It says an application error has occurred and hangs up). I just want to get the remastered mp3. I remember when that was up on the site. I was excited that those old b-sides were finally going to be cleaned up and re-released, but we didn't get any of them. :(

Interesting read! But to be fair, the word "new" should come nowhere near this track. Remastered has nothing to do with new.

Your opinion is no less valid than mine, for certain. If I found a remastered version of 33% God somewhere tomorrow I would consider it new. You might not, and you wouldn't be wrong for disagreeing with me. Not sure what fairness has to do with it.

Yes. This is fact.
Not everything is a matter of opinion.

How about this for a compromise.... "new version of a Beastie track".

Ok, so remastered version of an old ass track?
It's all semantics, but suffice it to say that from my POV if they released a remastered version of any old track I would consider it a new/different/updated track. If I'm wrong about that, then I suppose it wouldn't be the first or last time.

P.S. What am I supposed to call the "new" iphone? :)

Right. Bad analogy on my part (hangs head and shuffles away quietly).
