I had tickets for the Congress Theater in Chicago. Just thinking about how sad it is that I wasn't able to attend their last performance makes me hurt for everyone who knew him and loved him for the man he was.

Totally, I've been struck with sadness that I'll never get to see the man in person for the last year, which in turn makes me feel worse for caring about my own trivial regrets when the man's life was far greater than just his music.

To anyone that went, was the gig a fitting finale to the Beasties live career?

I heard it wasn't the best show. they premiered Too Many Rappers but Nas rapped over a track of himself in the background. the last song they ever played live, Sabotage, had to be stopped in the beginning and they had some bad sound issues.

in general, sadly, I don't think MCA had the energy and they said he thought it was all the dust from the concert but he was starting to notice something was wrong :(

Interesting, the live stuff I had seen on youtube didnt seem to have the same level of energy from previous tours. Although perhaps some of the other shows of 07/08 had been a little lower in energy levels as well? Perhaps someone can comment who went to many shows.

At least they got to play Too Many Rappers live at least once, the Hot Sauce material deserved to have a good live blast.

I saw them 6 times between May and August 07, they were on point the whole time, through the Rock The Vote tour in 08, and all the way up to the last televised performance on Fallon in May 09

I had tickets to the Congress show in Chicago as well, the Lollapalooza headliner the night later, and I joined a Hollywood Bowl promotional offer just to get tickets scheduled for September of that year. and I would have gone to Outside Lands and Austin City Limits

The last show I saw them was the Rock the Vote show in Nov' 08 in Milwaukee. There are lots of clips from that show up on youtube.

Here's a nice one...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl7eSy5VSUw

I thought it was an outstanding show!

Saw them at their hotel the morning of the show.
That's the last time I spoke to Yauch. He was as nice as usual, asking questions about how I was doing, etc...

I am so glad I decided to go to the show at the last moment.

Sup PaulB... I know this is way out of context, and probably better fitted for a PM, but since my wife and I met on these here boards (actually on the hub), we just had twins today. So happy. Spreading love out from Colorado today.
