I'ma let you finish, Licensed To Ill was a dope album, but Led Zeppelin's self titled record was the greatest debut album of all time.

(it was #72 on the list)

I know right...72! What a joke...

I never agree 100% with these so called lists, but it's still nice to see the Beasties get some respect as deserved.

Yeah I completely agree. Most of the time I don't take the "Greatest...of all time" seriously because where do they come up with the results? Most "poll" like 100 people....I dont know, I just dont consider them legit.

pandering to the current beastie buzz, i suppose. now that yauch has passed i think we can expect a considerable bump in glorification from the press in the next few years; some warranted, some overblown. in this case im afraid it may be the latter.

not complaining though. always love seeing our boys collect respect. (y)

I'll concede that the legacy of any artist will rise exponentially after they die, but I think the word pandering isn't exactly the right word for it. It isn't as if there's a contingency of Beastie Boys fans or sponsors that Rolling Stone has something to gain from by catering to them.

I do agree though that the number 1 spot might be number 5 or 6 if MCA was still alive. I also think Nevermind wouldn't be anywhere near as regarded as it is today if Kurt Cobain never blew himself away with a shotgun.

sorry but both LTI and Nevermind sold a fuckload of copies (possibly record breaking at the time if memory serves) before anybody died and i think the impact both had on release is enough to put them near the top of a few lists. I think LTI at top is fair enough, especially for an american magazine. Plus, its place in rap history and then what the beasties did after it, its a very important album. But i prefer a few other albums in that list, but not many.

personally i was chuffed that The stone roses got in there. It tops most charts in the uk but they imploded before they could even have a go at cracking america.
