what would you do in that situation? I don't think he did anything wrong. people live well beyond what's enjoyable for themselves. having an absolutely shitty life towards the end is what mostly everyone has to look forward to.

jesus christ that's so awful and sad, that poor old man :(
when my grandma got really sick several years back with no apparent reason, she was in the hospital for weeks and declined seemingly overnight. my grandpa (who had been married to her for 63 years) stayed by her side every minute, and it took a huge toll on him too. seeing him crying in the hallway alone and staring out the window, looking so helplessly on at his children and grandchildren while the love of his life suffered - this man i'd looked up to for all of my life - i'll never forget that. the doctors ordered test after test and after almost two months of false starts it was clear nothing was helping and they couldn't make a diagnosis. we all gathered around one day and sort of said our goodbyes, though she was barely awake, and that night my mom told me that my grandpa demanded that no more tests be done for the night because that's what she asked for. one night of full sleep, with no more poking and prodding and draining blood and x-rays and invasive exams etc.
she passed away peacefully that night. :(

animals are getting put to sleep for suffering but humans have to go through hell to get sent to heaven (?)
i think this has some romantic touch to it but i would have killed myself too if i was him

Right decision. He is no threat to anyone.
