I would like your opinions of a comedian please.

Russell Peters.

Basically, been offered a free ticket to go see him next week thru work friends and i am going to go but know fuck all about him really.

Am gonna check some stuff out on th'youtube but would really value your opinion if you know who he is. Especially you guys from canada and US who might know a bit more about him, how he's perceived , is he like any other comedians. Just any info really, a lot of you guys really know your funny business so it would be good to know what you think.

If you don't feel like reading all that, basically he does a lot of racial/ethnic humor that is pretty hack...old fashioned and lazy. It's so mild, but that almost makes his act seem even more racist.

the star of the show isn't even ricky it's his good friend karl Pilkington. just some dude him and steven merchant met working as a radio station engineer or something.

the show started out as a podcast but then hbo turned the podcasts into this great little animated show.

Thanks people, Yeah i am getting the impression his act is a little dated, problem is i dont want to watch loads of clips in case i hear all of his act and really ruin evening but am getting vibe that its not going to be great but i'll still go cos its a works outing.


Turd, I didnt mind the karl pilkington stuff on the radio but the Idiot Abroad TV series is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. I have no idea if you can get that over where you are but there are 3 series and its genius

still not seen the third series yet. Its kind of hard to watch sometimes in that i cant believe he's not in on the joke sometimes, i think he plays up to it. I dunno.

The thing with Russell is he's basically a one trick pony with his sets...growing up in the great Canadian melting pot exposed him to all kinds of cultures and his sctick is basically accent driven impressions of his own East Indian family then race based jokes about his Jamaican,Asian and white friends...it was funny about 5 years back but it's worn thin...but a free tix is a free tix and I'd probably go...he's also a huge hip hop and porn fan...

yeah i watched about five minutes of stuff , it made me a bit uncomfortable tbh as some of it wasnt funny enough to outweigh the subject matter. Christ that sounded pretentious. even for moi.

I sat through about an hour of YouTube clips a few years ago while on holiday in Cyprus. By the end I was looking for an excuse to leave. Then I realised that I didn't speak Greek or know where I was so I had to just sit and soak it up.

I don't know if comedy simply stalled in the 70s in Cyprus or if it was just my friends and their particular sense of humour, but they found his racial observations hilarious whereas I was just kinda like... "meh, haven't we moved on from this already?"

It was ok, some of the stuff about racial stereotypes was funny some wasnt. i preferred him when he was taking the piss out of audience or talking about other stuff like giving birth than all the stuff about people from different places. Some of it was awkward but then when he was improvising he was ok
