I read on wikipedia that they make U$ 51,000,00 per year. Considering the risks, that't not much, not much at all. I thought they made at least 3 times more than that.
So, why?!

I made a whole 700 a month in the army.
Went to be a correctional officer and starting pay was $7.45 an hour. Then I went to state corrections, starting pay for that was $10.80 an hour. To put myself in a prison with hardened convicts.
Who knows. It's not really the money I suppose. It's drive and will to make sure you're doing something to keep good people safe.

I only trust Wikipedia for general details, but when I start to quote it as fact, I remember that I could edit the information on it. That being said, it is probably pretty accurate given the way that other police/firemen/teachers are undervalued and underpaid in American society.

That's why I often use the sources presented in a wikipedia article to quote. Wikipedia is not bad or unreliable and is a good starting point, but not one to rely on solely.
