Today I copped mine at Barnes & Nobel. They had like 20 copies. I'm going to read it tonight due to it being so amazing outside!

I went to the news agents last week and asked them to save me a copy (and from that day forward they'll be saving all the mags with Bowie and Beastie Boys on for me! Yay! :D ). They called me today that they'd received it, but there was no Beastie Boys on it. It turned out to be the May issue.... Sot it's gonna take another month before the right issue is here! :o

Yeah I had a hard time finding one today, I've went all around my town showing them a picture of the cover/name of the mag, but they don't have it out yet...
maybe my local barnes n noble is behind....
heard its coming out the 14th?

I picked up the magazine after work on Friday and finished it tonight. It's unbelievable. Must read. Sheds a ton of light on the Beastie Boys in a way that's completely different than your usual magazine interview or article.

The artist interviews are really powerful and just add to the importance of their legacy. A great fucking tribute.

Well done Juxtapoz.

I like that the CYH collage has none of the doodles that adorn the released version: I never knew that was Joe Namath, for one thing.

Kinda disrespectful of the interviewer to ask Mike Mills if the cover of HSC2 is a QR code. There was speculation when it came out, of course. But obviously it turned out not to be the case.
Also - anyone know where all the boxed images with the HSC title over them are from?

skimmed all, read Ad Rock completely. It is now part of my permanent coffee table stuff.

I cant help but think Ad Rock is never serious during an interview. I think that is why when Ad Rock says CYH logo was not the Adidas logos, I found myself thinking for the first time it must be.

Looking forward to the next reading session.

Never heard of this magazine until this Beastie issue was announced. I finally got mine! They really took their time with this one. It’s not half assed and certainly not the same old information we always hear in regards to the Beasties. A real history lesson for even long time fans who know everything.

Great issue !

In the Gambale interview, it's written that there are more than "3MTA3" hidden on the cover of LTI, including an "unmentionable phrase". Any idea about those hidden words ??

yeah, I was trying to figure that out myself. I couldn't find anything on my copies. But I only have the def jam reissue and a cd. Maybe on an original pressing?

I think I found the other hidden message on the LTI cover. Check under the crashed wing on the backside of the album. It almost looks like they're spelling out the original title to the album.

Wow. I think that's it! I just don't see the word "don't". Everything else looks there. Crazy how it's gone unnoticed all these years. We had to wait for the artist to tell us.

I wonder what's hidden on the PB cover.

brooklyndust

I think "don't" is buried in there somewhere. I wonder if it's more clear on an original pressing (I only have the 2000 reissue and columbia house cd), or if there is any watercolor tricks like with Zeppelin's in through the outdoor album.

I was also wondering if you inverted the colors if it would show up more clearly.

I wonder if Columbia said no to the original title so they had the guy hide it on there anyway....seems like something Rubin would do.

Yeah it sounds like something he would do for sure. Plus it's not really obvious, but it's there.

Rick Rubin once tried to convince the Black Crowes to change their name to the Kobb Kounty Krowes because it would be so hilarious if a band from the south referenced the KKK, right? They told him to fuck off. He's an amazing producer, but I'll bet he came up with that fucking title.

Anyway, I think it is in there on the cover. It's good that it's so difficult to find.

Got a copy, finally. Was a decent enough read. I’d always liked their design elements and it was nice that such an under-explored facet of the band got some heavy exposure.

It did bring to the fore an issue which I can see needing to be addressed with the release of the memoir, though. With so much information already being relatively common knowledge among the fan base, it’s really a big deal to add some value to the story of the band at this point.

I think the book (or whatever format it may eventuate in) will probably target the less fanatical fan than those on here, but it would be nice if there were plenty of untold stories also, to value-add for us long-time encyclopediacs. Or not. But, you know.

For my money, it feels like many of us on here could tell the majority of the band’s story as it stands now, and really of all the eras, the one in which I’m particularly interested is really (for better or worse) 2008 – 12, as it was the quietest they’d ever been. And clearly the most poignant.

Maybe 89-90 if there is in fact any more to tell, too. Basically, it would be a shame to cop it, and then just flick through the majority to get to the point you know least about. Or maybe that’s the point, which could be kind of cool.

Maybe something unlike a straight memoir will address this, or maybe it will be an utterly engrossing and memorable re-telling of popular tales with some new ones mixed in. I think there will likely be a music/integrated media component, as well, which could be really interesting.

What was my point?
