Saw this on Ebay this morning and it sold right away. Pretty cool "tags" and even cooler that Adam's signature was even the same in high school. Anyone know who's yearbook it was? They said the person who bought it would find out who's book it was. With the amount of Adrock tags in it, it should be someone close.

To be honest, I would expect the #1 fan to find a way to cop that book. I mean, seriously, there is NO excuse.
#2 bought it.
Shit's getting tight at the top.

The reason I would want it (although I would not pay more than $10 because I am a cheapskate) is that I started listening to Beastie Boys in high school and my own high school yearbook encapsulates a lot of my early memories / experiences of the band (graffiti tags, clothing styles, era-specific sayings etc). What is interesting is that this is Ad-Rock's 1982 yearbook possibly before he was even rapping professionally ("Grandpa been rappin' since '83"). I find it interesting that he used the tag Ad-Rock so early. It is like the 'seed' during his high school years (in relation to the graffiti pillar of hip hop) that could have been critical to the later development of the band (or at least Ad-Rock's music persona). Also I would probably just like to thumb through Ad-Rock's yearbook to see how much different it was than my own (I did not grow up in NYC nor did I go to the same High School as "The Fonz" like Ad-Rock did). Finally I am a bit curious as to whose yearbook it was (recall the ebay seller acted like that is an important secret). I must admit I would pay more for Ad-Rock's first turntable ($50-100) compared to his yearbook.
Final reason it is of interest -- History! I like museums and looking at people's personal things. Some day I would like to see a Beastie public museum where all of these things are stored for the benefit of all, as opposed to the few who can afford them.

I don't think it was purchased so he could light candles and gaze upon it in voyeristic rapture, that would be creepy. Buying something like that for its historical value ( if you happen to be the kind of person who literally researches the Beastie Boys) makes perfect sense. Just because the person doing the research happens to be a fan does not necessarily mean the primary reason for wanting the item is some skewed, obsessive, attempt to delve into their personal lives. If, for instance, the yearbook allows the purchaser to follow up on school friends, or even just post some new pics that none of us have seen before I would be happy that someone had thought to do it.

And you don't have to understand. Don't even bother trying to figure it out.
Take a rest, and mind yo own biz.
