I still don't see how a band who sang about, referenced and dressed up as Star Trek characters can have their songs featured in movie about those same characters without some kind of temporal disturbance .
It makes 0 sense to me. How could they have been able to write about them unless the Beastie Boys are prophets?
I haven't seen the new movie yet, but in the first reboot it was playing on a radio, as a part of the actual world the movie takes place in, not simply as a part of the "soundtrack".

Maybe the songs, in the context of the films, are not by a band called Beastie Boys.

So you are suggesting that maybe this band that made a song called Sabotage and whatever song is in the new movie is not actually by a band called Beastie Boys? This band which is not called Beastie Boys never went on to make any of the other songs that our Beastie Boys made featuring references to the Star Trek Universe? I guess I could buy that.

Yeah, kinda like if the actor playing Kirk was in another movie/TV show wherein he referenced Star Trek - one wouldn't hold that against the makers of this film, right? In this line of thinking, the song we know as Sabotage is playing a song called Sabotage in the movie.

can't be a mistake. someone in the band commented that once they let them use the song, they thought how cool it was that in their universe, the beastie boys music had survived over 200 years and was still being blasted...
but here's a theory that could work...
a temporal incursion disrupted the time continuum and created an alternate reality. the alternate reality is featured in both the new star Trek movies...
the Beastie Boys, while recording Hello Nasty in space, are the reason for the temporal incursion.
they had a copy of Sabotage on deck when they made the song in question that was used for Star Trek 2.

Song in question is being played on vinyl and it's known to get your Body Movin'.

is it in the actual movie or/and soundtrack or are they just airing it in the commercials? theres a big difference. if its in the commercials, chances are its not in the movie.

it's in the movie..methinks JJ Abrams is a B-Boy fan. That would REALLY jack with people's temporal distortion theories if a song makes it into STAR WARS. Whoa. Trippy, man.

My nerd rage would go off the radar of that happened.

1. The movie is so freakin' good.
2. Made even better by being the second in a row to have a Beastie Boys song in it.
3. JJ/his writers must be BB fans and I'm sure know of Beasties' (particularly MCA's) love for ST.
4. My friend was on a transatlantic flight and the movie was the first reboot. "Sabotage" came on and he spontaneously yelled "FUCK YEAH!" People stared.

Yeah, I saw it another time with my dad and was going to post that it was the FBS remix.
Which I personally don't mind.

The new ST is fantastic...far better than the original, and I loved the original.
Yep, it's been confirmed by the creative team that JJ is a big Beastie Boys fan, which I think is pretty damn cool.
The FBS version plays while Kirk is getting it on with two Caitian twins (a cat-like race).
Let's hope the Beasties also make it into the 3rd Trek that's due out in 2016!

If Paramount wants Abrams to direct the 3rd film (which they obviously will) in the reboot series there is no way it will be out in 2016. He's going to be too busy with Star Wars Episode VII. It took him almost five years to get Into Darkness out and the only film he directed between them was Super 8.

Paramount wants the third ST out in 2016....rain or shine. That year is ST's 50th anniversary, and a lot of commemorative stuff is planned.
The latest word is that Abrams will executive produce, rather than direct. The possibility exists that Orci/Kurtzman (the writers) will direct this one, or another director entirely will be brought in. Some names are being considered right now, but nothing is official.

I saw the first Star Trek with Sabotage in it. The use of Sabotage was clearly the high point. I saw the movie with my grandfather, a lifelong Trek fan, and he despised it. How this movie got a 95% on the tomatometer is baffling.
When it comes to media utilizing Beastie tracks, clearly Shambala in "Breaking Bad" is tops so far.
