It looks like the 9th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF) (http://www.bkhiphopfestival.com/) is getting bigger and deffer. Today, organizers announced additions to the already stellar lineup and calendar of events.

BHF Headliner Pusha Trecently announced his much anticipated album "My Name Is My Name" will be dropping on July 16th, the Tuesday after The Festival. Pusha's team and the Bodega Squad are hard at work making sure we all benefit from such fortuitous timing. Stay tuned our friends...

In addition to headliners Pusha T, EPMD and Redman, Brooklyn Bodega, producers of the Festival will be paying tribute to Adam Yauch aka "MCA" of the Beastie Boys. The founder of the legendary group passed away last year from cancer and the team at Brooklyn Bodega has wanted to pay their respects since the news broke.

In regards to the tribute, Jackson, "We reached out to King Ad Rock [Adam Horovitz] right after MCA passed last year and asked if there was anything we could do to help celebrate the life of his brother. It was so soon that we were hesitant to even reach out. We wanted to give them space and time. We did speak to Cey Adams [longtime Beasties collaborator and friend] and tried to put something together but the timing wasn't right. We couldn't go another year without taking time out to honor what MCA did for our culture and our music."

Brooklyn Bodega will be working with the producers of the recent "MCA Day" to continue the celebration of Yauch's life. On the Final Day of the Festival, July 13th, The Festival will stop for a moment of silence for Yauch and then launch into a tribute curated by Jackson and Bodega DJ, RawBeatz. (y) Brooklyn Bodega will also release an exclusive mix of Beastie songs of remixes from the "Cookie Puss" days all the way to "Hot Sauce Committee".

More tributes to some of Hip-Hop fallen soldiers are also being planned.
More info on that is soon come.

Sweet. I remember they were going to do something last year, but were really quiet about it, then nothing happened. Erick Sermon is a huge Beastie fan, has sampled Beastie vocals in a number of amazing EPMD songs and recorded remixes and mixtape versions of their stuff. I'm sure - if it happens - it will be one of the better tributes.

And I think Pusha T freestyled over Pass the Mic on Green Lantern's NY State of Mind mixtape.

Cool. You know it's great seeing all of the love Brooklyn is giving back to Adam. I think with MCADAY's Mike K. involved it will definitely be something more for the fans.... :)

I won't be able to attend this, but I am very much looking forward to anyone that is, letting us know how it goes.

I'm planning on going. FYI - some of Pusha T's new stuff, Who I Am, for example, is amazing.

Definitely different than Clipse stuff, stylistically (although honestly, I'm only fully familiar with Lord Willin')

Just got back from this. Hurricane was there during a DJ set honoring MCA, which he didn't DJ, oddly enough. Dante Ross was there, the Beastie Boy car was there, Ralph McDaniels, a big hip hop figure in New York, talked about Adam, and the crowd was really into the stuff they were playing. I remember hearing parts of Time to Get Ill, The New Style, Slow Ride, Brass Monkey, Shake Your Rump, Intergalactic, and Paul Revere. It was obviously focused on the old school stuff, but it would have been nice if they'd done a better job with the newer records. Maybe it's too much to ask for Long Burn the Fire, but that would have been the shit.

The concert was about a block away from Adam Yauch Park. Went over after the concert and there were messages in chalk from a lot of people and Tibetan flags across some of the trees. Best park in New York, by far.

Thanks for the summary, it sounds like it was cool. I'll look for it on Youtube.
I know the organizers were outwardly hoping that Mike D and Adrock would make an appearance, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I was curious if Redman & EPMD included any Beastie-themed/oriented stuff in their sets. I know both of them are big Beastie Boys fans. I kinda expect that Redman did "Beet Drop".

I don't think any of the other acts I saw - Redman, EPMD, or T - did anything. It would've been cool, but I'm fine with how it went down. They've all paid their respects in one way or another.
