Weird that a few days after that Mike Simpson piece was posted that this appears...John King aka King Gizmo, the other Dust Brother is featured in this interview at Chung King studios...barely any mention of the Beasties other than their early use of loops/samples, and the fact that the interview is set to Rickys Theme. Interesting nonetheless....

His whole Rap vs Hip Hop/ East vs West rant is just plain incorrect on so many levels.

His whole Rap vs Hip Hop/ East vs West rant is just plain incorrect on so many levels.
I agree. Rap had a hard edge before NWA and Ice T and all of that (which I love). Schoolly D sort of presaged both the Beastie Boys and gangster rap and he was from Philadelphia.
Did enjoy the video, though. This John King looks a little like Phil Spector.
