Fairweather Friends is the worst thing they've ever recorded. It sounds like a Chinese Democracy out-take. And some of the music (oddly enough even the drumming???) is pedestrian. It's solid, because it's QOTSA and it's different, but far from amazing.

i felt the same way about lullabies. I think because I was expecting something more energetic like their previous albums. this new one is really moody. I like that. I was hoping for something very unconventional like era vulgaris. I was very satisfied with that one. I think this new one is gonna be a grower.

On the whole it's enjoyable, there's just a lot about it that is pretty average. It's a married guy with two kids complaining a lot. It's Married with Children!

LTP was better than it should have been. This one should have been better.

apparently josh almost died from a routine knee operation and was bed ridden for 4 months. he flat lined and they had to defibrillate him. it put him in a weird funk and didn't want anything to do with music. his band mates basically forced him back into the studio to try to snap him out of it.

I knew I'd regret that post. I am loving Vampyre (very Floyd with the triangle waves) and the title track. They are sort of more representative of the feel of the disc, and while I still hate Fairweather Friends, I love Keep Your Eyes Peeled. Very cool opener and it's fun as to drum along to. On that note, I'm trying to learn My God is the Sun, too.

I Sat by the Ocean is mediocre, to me. And it's a shame (but very pointed) that Nick's contribution to If I Had a Tail is reduced to the reverb of his screams into a distortion mic. But fair enough, I guess. Good song, though.

While Smooth Sailing sounds sorta like Gunman meets Skin on Skin meets Turnin on the Screw (none of which represent particularly strong work), it's my favourite track so far. 3:49 onwards kind of reminds me of Over the Hills and Far Away, and there's also a pretty plain Bowie vibe.

I feel like I Appear Missing solely exists so he doesn't have to entertain the notion of playing In the Fade/Autopilot ever again. It's alright, I guess. And the loud parts of Kalopsia are kind of ho-hum (except the freak out screams on the second go-around - I like that).

It's really interesting that Joey's drumming is feeling looser than Dave's. And Jon's is just the bolts. So good.

Yeah I sorta flip-flopped. I love the band, so I wanted to give it a real chance, as best I could. I stand by the assertion that there are some average bits, though.

Mr. Homme is a funny guy. Shame about the music.

I haven't heard it yet and kinda don't have any interest. After Lullabies to Paralyze they kinda lost me.

If there's anything on it like the first album or Rated R I might check it out, but otherwise I think I'd rather listen to Kyuss.
