Thoughts?
I just listened to it on my monitors, and then my headphones.
I'm blown away.

I listened. Liked a lot of it but even the stuff i didnt was interesting.
I'm not the biggest fan of his but heard all the albums and he never fails to surprise and come back with something different to last time. Always trying something new and different. His samples and sounds are always good or at least different from the norm. Nothings sacred in his eyes for sampling which is good to see.
I know we cant really answer this question but how much of his choice of samples and guests is a personal choice of his and how much is business savvy/music industry driven? Interesting to know, i hope he chooses people he likes and doesnt take advice from any execs on that front.

10. "Bound 2" (featuring Charlie Wilson) Terence Trent D'arby, No I.D., Symbolyc One (co.) The Heatmakerz (co.), Rick Rubin (add.)
hudson mohawke is signed to GOOD and kanye supposedly bought a TNGHT beat ("ru ready" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ie6CLe3g75g) when they started making noise last year, so i'd guess they are a personal choice. and "ru ready" sounds like "blood on the leaves".
was surprised to see gesaffelstein in there. but it makes sense cos he makes some fairly ominous tunes which fit in what yeezus seems to be going for (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIpyBeBpC74). also, he's french and kanye luhs paris.

R U Ready was stripped down for Blood On The Leaves.
Hudson did a lot of work on the album but Rick Rubin might of stripped some of it away for the final product.
Skrillex also worked on a song for the album but it looks like that was thrown in the bin (sigh of relief).
There is apparently 4 bonus songs on the French version. It'll be interesting to see who worked on them and if they flow with the rest of the album.

ive listened to it 3 or so times now. its getting better. very different compared to music his peers are making (he would probably be insulted by calling them peers, that fact that he thinks no one is on his level).
so much for a nice summer rap album though. Mercy this is not. i will give him credit for pushing for originality however.

It's definitely not music to wash your car to.
But, I'm giving it 9/10.
Run The Jewels is next on my radar.

First listen....not feeling it. The beats just don't do it for me as a "hip hop album." I've always been a Ye fan since the first time I heard "Through the Wire" but dude has seriously ran out out of shit to rhyme about. Boring me a bit. Hoping it grows on me. I will rate after another listen but gonna be hard to give it over a 7/10 I believe.

I wouldn't classify Yeezus as a hip-hop album. It's closer to 808s & Heartbreaks than the rest of his discography.
I believe one writer dubbed it 808s & Anger. I tend to agree with that.

I have a complicated relationship with this album. Big 'Ye fan, loved his previous albums, especially Dark Fantasy, but I was suspect coming into this one. It surprised me though, he pulled off a good album, which I hadn't initially expected him to the 6th time around.
But the more I listen to the album the more shallow I feel it is. And not in a rewarding way. I still think the beats are great and the first four tracks are entertaining as.. the rest of the album almost drags. Even though Blood on the Leaves seems to be a favourite of many people.
What's up with Pitchfork giving it 9.5? It's good but seriously... that's their highest score of the year. I'm getting more and more suspicious of Pitchfork by the week as well.
There's rumours of ghost writing as well, from Chief Keef and Cyhi the Prince. I guess that doesn't really matter. Remains to be seen what 'Ye does next though, will the downfall finally be imminent?

Bound 2 is worth the 9.5 rating itself.
Fuck Pitchfork though.

because pitchfork is hipster. and this is a rap album for hipsters. its not really rap. its kinda its own thing, with a lot of different elements.
okay after my 5th listen i can say i like it. an open mind is needed no doubt, but i like that its just some different music.

I can never understand why people want/expect an artist to crank out the same sound/vibe/style of record every time.
LTI is different from PB and CHY sounds different than LTI & PB.
I know a lot of people were bummed when PB sounded nothing like LTI. And even people on this board still wanted the B-Boys to work with either Rick Rubin or the Dust Brothers again. Been there, done that.
Bands/artists evolve.
I love My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy but I'm glad it sounds nothing like Yeezus.
Anyways...

Bound 2 is that shit for sure. No matter how played out some people say they are, I'm a sucker for good soul loops.
808s got one thorough listen from me. That's all Yeezus has gotten so far, although I have bumped Bound 2 several times.
I'm up for artists creating unique art, but when you deliver shit like College Dropout and My.....Fantasy, you set the bar high. I want CLASSICS yo!!!!!:)

the lyrics are whatever.
some funny lines. some childish shit. but im not really listening to kanye albums for rakim-like lyrics. hes a producer first. and the music is def on another level in terms of what rappers are doing.
basically its own thing is how i look at it.
i appreciate that.
and i fux with it.

Ye can rap about fucking your wife all he wants. No other album goes as hard as Yeezus right now.

yeah the beats really almost cant be called "beats". like i feel to call something a beat it needs to be a some kind of repetitive bass kick for the most part, or high hat depending on the song. songs change sometimes but for the most part the beat rides out. on yeezus there is a real heavy vibe of electro-yhouse, technoie, daft punky type of shit. if your not into that kind of stuff your not going to appreciate the subjective nature of this piece of music imo.

The moment I found out about it's existence (that's how low key it was), to the lack of singles, to the lack of cover art, to the totally different styles of the songs he played on SNL, I knew this was going to be a formless, anything-goes/no-fucks-given extravaganza.
It's like he extracted every personal and musical flaw he has about himself and put it into a album. All up until Bound 2 where then like he made it some litmus test to see rather fans were still with him or not after listening to the rest of the tracks. It is a very polarizing album that not everyone is going to like but I'd guess I'm fortunate to dig it.
