just a little fucking around. a little sloppy but I've only been doing it for about 9 months with absolutely no experience with musical instruments beforehand.

It's good. I've no doubt that I'd wouldn't be half as good after 9 months.

There's very little wrong with that. Sounds like you've been playing a lot longer than 9 months (y)

It gets a little loose at the end, but for 9 months in it's pretty impressive.

Compress those drum hits and they will sound tighter. (y)

wow

I was expecting to be railed given how we're mostly delightful assholes here.

what do you mean by compress those drum hits? you mean sonically within the program? or is that some sort of jargon for how to hit the heads? I don't like that compressed sound. I have a decent sound system hooked up to the drums with a big subwoofer and I like to feel the thud and the hits. there's TONS of different effects and drums in the program I use with compressed sounds and totally natural open sounds. I mainly like the more natural BIG and airy sounding ones.

So you're glad you got the kit then! How have you taught yourself?

well there's programs that work a lot like rockband but are more.... professional? i kind kinda knew what had to be done from just being interested in music my whole life, it was just a matter of gaining the coordination. it's like trying to rub your belly and tap your head at the same time just a lot more complicated because you're using all your limbs and all your limbs can be going all at different tempos.

just fucking around and discovering what works and is pleasing to the ear. i'd be sitting behind my kit just fucking shit up and then i'd stumble across something that sounded pretty sweet. then i'd just try to recreate that and expand on it.

youtube helps a lot too. freedrumlessons.com.

this was and still is my goal:

it's a shuffle beat and it's pretty fucking difficult and frustrating because i know what i have to do but it's a matter of just gaining more coordination.

this guy explains it really well:

It's all subjective, and I was listening to it from YouTube which is the worst media player ever.

If it sounds good to you and you're happy with it, let it fly.

I compress the drum hits and samples when I'm working on music because it tightens it up and sounds cleaner after the mastering phase. If you're just fucking around and having fun then go with what you like.

yeah. youtube does suck the life out of things sonically.

it's sloppier but it's actually a bit harder to go slower.

Great work ! Try drumming to a click track as it will help your timing and tame tempo fluctuation

I've tried playing to the metronome that came built into my set but it kinda sucks all the fun out of it.
