Have you guys heard this term being used? Or know anything about what it's supposed to mean?
I never even heard this term until I heard my boss and coworkers using this term to describe themselves and their vision for the company. ("we hire A type personalities!") Like it's a positive thing that people should strive to be.
I looked it up and this is definitely not the type of person I am, or would want to be.
Articles I've been reading say that A type personalities are people who are Status conscious, workaholics, overly competitive, impatient, obsessed with time management. Basically obsessed with "achievement." Whatever that is.
I mean there's positive characteristics as well, but it seems like this "type" of person is driving themselves into heart condition or other stress related illness.
Or maybe this is a bunch of psuedo-science, perhaps.
I dont know, just wondering what you guys thought about this.

People who brag about being "type A" are dorks. And it is pseudo-science because there are definitely more than two types of people.

I hear that. Basically the A stands for Asshole. Anyone who thinks that to be a 'type A' is a good thing is probably an asshole too.
I'm sorry you have to work with all those assholes.
I think most of my bosses have been "Type A" (if you subscribe to that kind of personality dichotomy at all) - but they were good guys.
The problem is that everything associated with "Type B" doesn't really fit well in a resume - even if it usually makes you a more well rounded and healthy person. I find a lot of "Type A" people have a weakness for being "Type B" when it comes to family, which is good.

It used to be a very common descriptor. It's pretty dated, in my opinion. I agree that anyone who self describes as "type A" is 98% likely to be an asshole. But the opposite is just as bad--whatever they're called. We need balanced people in the workplace--and all kinds of different people with different skill sets and different personality traits.
People think I'm competitive and I definitely strive for perfection, am deadline driven, work a lot and do well under stress--but I'd be insulted to be called type A.

there are only three types of people in this world
those that can do maths and those that cant:D
"type a" sounds like a massive bunch of bs for people who are full of bs to hire people who are full of bs
Not heard of it before but I guess it's the type of person who would contemplate, even for one second, of applying to go on the apprentice?
Might be just British slang but "cocky" some people use to wear as a badge of their personality "yeah, I'm cocky; people think I'm great at social occasions"
...
no, people think you're an idiot but too embarrassed for yourself to tell you that to your face and/or afraid it will just encourage you.

Being a type b and managing type as gives me the drizzling shits.
And it is pseudo-science because there are definitely more than two types of people.

sounds fuckin shit.
sounds like a lot of the people who become partners in law firms :(
i feel like i never hear people describe themselves as "type B". whenever you hear somebody labeling themselves by this dichotomy, it's always in a "i'm a type A" context. sometimes the reference is different, from the outright boastful "i'm a type A so i'd be a great fit as your new SVP of digital multi-channel interactive marketing customer reference file streamlining", to the back-handedly apologetic "sorry if i hurt your feelings, i'm a type A, i can't help it because it's what we do bro". but i don't think i've ever once heard somebody describe themselves as a type B unprovoked.
is it possible, maybe, that this type A vs. type B thing is a thing that "type A" people invented for themselves to give themselves another way to feel like they're winning at life (because A is a better grade than B, after all)?
i'm a type B though, maybe i'm wrong and dumb like usual. it's a type B thing i guess, it's what we do
Read a book a couple months back - "Quiet" [subtitled: the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking].
Worthwhile.
